Portfolio Challange

montagneux

Would anyone like to create a portfolio challenge kind of competition?

I'm asking because I'd like so motivation to do something that I can use for a job interview... and maybe you can too. I say this because it seems like some people have spent literal years on their portfolios. I mean... more power to them but if I have 3 years to tweak a single project... it should probably be pretty awesome.

Likewise, if I can prove to an employer that i did all of these things in less than two weeks.. it shows them I have practical and quick skills.

The concept here would be pretty simple... to compile a serious of concepts or ideas in less than two weeks.

Not just whole buildings but architectural details (hand rails, lights, shingles, tiles, mosiacs), furniture, patterns for flooring and wallpaper, units of architecture (doors, windows, staircases, elevators), "green ideas" (water storage, solar panels) and cultural concepts (ornamentation, programmatic, monuments).

I figure at least one from each category, maybe 7-10 examples total?

I think competition and the support in this thread would help us beat the blues and let us publish our developing entries.

This might be cool to turn into one of those pocket portfolios, around 3"x5" or 5"x7", that you carry around in your back pocket when networking. Since it's a quickie, and to emphasize the "deliverable" nature of what you're trying to sell (good quality, efficient speed), it makes sense to me to have it be extremely portable. That way, you're inherently not competing with flashy career-spanning portfolios.

"Here's a two week design challenge I set for myself. If you'd like to see more, I can send you my official portfolio and we can discuss working together" or something like that.

Yep, I've spent like maybe an hour already doing some quick sketches.

I'll probably officially start later today.
