disregard that "last two photos" comment, i took some out when i realized you people probably didn't need to be inundated with photos from grand rapids.

Bossman,

Isn't that near Conversations Cafe?

I thought that name was a hoot?

The last sentence was a declarative one not in an interrogative one. We need an edit button

(True -- but adding a question mark to any statement gives the author a becoming appearance of humility, don't you think. . . ?)

This is one of my favorites:

Independence "Mall", Philadelphia

then

a few years ago...

The old industrial/commercial fabric around Independence Hall was torn out to create blocks of open space. The above view is now gone as well, along with the Mitchell/Giurgola Liberty Bell pavilion. The recent redesign brings more tourists, but in some ways has deadened the blocks even more, particularly, in the color photo, the area just across the street from the Hall around the old pavilion, which was a lively outdoor lunch/hanging-out space and is now just blank lawn. A lesson on how grand designs often are not able to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
