Later this month will mark three years since graduating from undergrad with a bachelor of arts in architecture. I am applying to grad school for this upcoming fall and will include both professional (at a firm and freelance) works along with educational projects. I plan on placing my most recent work (professional and freelance) first in the portfolio followed by the educational work. Is this a good order or should it be reversed? What do you all think?
As long as each project is clearly tagged (school versus professional), it shouldn't really matter. But, if worried about order, your take (most recent first) works best.
List your most important work first, think about the process of someone receiving your portfolio, opening and examining it. The admissions board is not as concerned with your ability to follow instructions and create run of the mill documentation as they are with your ability to think critically and create good design solutions. If you have held employment at a firm that is doing work that you would like to be doing yourself someday, it may be a good idea to mention that along with prominently stating your role and contribution to professional projects you are proud of.
Thanks for the responses. I feel torn btwn which to show first, I understand that the admissions committee will want to see more of my thinking process, however I feel that with those educational projects occuring anywhere from three to six years ago it will be more vital to show them what I have been up to more recently such as competitions and freelance work. I only intend to include one "professional office" project if at all.
