I have wanted to post my portfolio for criticism for some time, but respect the caliber and diversity of people on this site and decided to totally rework it before doing so. I have also been to the AIA NY Center for Architecture “Not Business as Usual” workshops where I have had my previous portfolio looked at and used many of their recommendations to this new version.
So enough with the small talk, please go to below url:
the red boarder is so strong, i would not force it to become titles or the wall section or anything else...they look forced to relate....leave it alone.
Agreeing with above, your red border is too strong.
Try a stronger variety of materials on your page four "aerial perspective" (which is actually an ortho) rendering, I imagine that you might be going for a green roof, try photoshopping some trees in there from an arial shot of a forest?
On page five you have a 'Structural Axon' that is actually a perspectival section.
You go from a serif font in your explanations to a sans serif font in your titling of the images, the titling of the images is a little dominating, your images are falling into the background.
You have an aerial view on page 6 thats an orthographic shot from max(?) its visually confusing. Try a poche' (black fill) on the portions cut through on the section on this page as well.
Good graphics from the project with the tensile roof structure, this should be showcased and maybe foreshadowed at the beginning of the portfolio.
A LOT of CDs... maybe consider showing only those that you are most proud of.
------------------
You have so many images that are orthographic when a perspective camera view would be much more effective... if re-renders of your work are not possible I suggest trimming down the quantity and showcasing your best work.
The hand drawings and concept work on the Tent roof structure is definitely your strongest work.
You really want your cover to be a black box with a red border? this format is very powerpoint.
Thank you all for posting ! So I will get rid of the red border, my intention that is was supposed to visually connect all the projects together (even the CD’s ).
Loremipsum,
You are correct with the first few pages, actually I’m in the process of rerendering and reorganizing the entire project. I just wanted something to show, as it was my thesis project.
As far as the lengthy showing of the CD’s I’ve done. The trend so far with the industry is that the 0-3 years experience is virtually not needed as the economy has worsened. And I unfortunately fall into that category with about 2 years experience, so that’s ideally why I’m trying to show more CD production.
Also the black pages with the red border were merely a place holder to my actual portfolio cover. I do agree with you it is a little much.
iheartbooks:
I like the idea of just showing the actual drawing printouts (full-scale). I just wasn’t sure if its awkward because I have very limited projects showing the COMPLETE CD’s. Obviously, I was part of a team and just show the work I did on the projects.
The perfect attendance was to show dedication to the work. I agree though that everyone has dedication otherwise we wouldn’t be in the profession. It was merely my way telling people that I commuted to school for 4 years, during all sorts of New England weather without hesitation.
Again thank you all for your comments as putting my portfolio together has not been an easy task. Hopefully one day it help me land a job!

Hello everyone!

That tent project is really interesting, but graphically my opinion would be to:
1. Nix the red boarder
2. Maybe separate the details and CD's from design work.
I brought my professional work in as a separate document that included full scale print outs of drawings I had worked on.
3. "PERFECT ATTENDANCE THROUGHOUT BACHELOR’S DEGREE PROGRAM"
It goes without saying that you would show up to work everyday if hired, you don’t need to say it.
Overall, you seem to have a good amount of experience and some nice projects.
Good luck brotha.

Hey Andy, just a quick tip if you don't already know.
If you are using Acrobat Pro in your pdf workflow you can save your pdf so it will open with any page display and zoom settings you want.
I find it irritating when I receive a pdf that is not optimized to fit my screen, regardless if its ultimate purpose is for printing out.
