Just got rejection e-mail from Cincinnati. I have a feeling I did not make it that far in their decision process! hahaha
Regardless, here's the note for those who are curious...
"Following a thorough review of a record number of applications from all corners of the globe, the
School of Architecture and Interior Design regrets to inform you that we cannot accept you into
our Master of Architecture program beginning this coming academic year 2010-11. The level of
competition was substantially higher than usual this year for the limited number of spaces we
have available.
Thank you for applying to our Master of Architecture Program. We realize that the application
process requires a considerable amount of effort. Be assured that your completed application
was well received and thoroughly reviewed.
We wish the best in your pursuit of graduate education in architecture."
Okay, as most of you have already deduced - I'm a loser. It is a beautiful day in No Cal and this thread is giving me an ulcer - off for a hike. Best wishes to all of you exceptionally talented people with incredible portfolios that make mine look like the newspaper from the bottom of a bird cage. Adios! (of course, I'll be back...)
Maybe I should have applied to more schools, so that the chance of getting SOMETHING interesting in my in-box would have been proportionally increased... 12 schools = 12 heart-attack inducing missives. As I have only 2 left to hear from, the odds of each Refresh yielding new emails is slimmer.
I don't know if i should feel insulted or what but I just got an email from UT about enrolling in their summer academy for architecture. I might just take this as a sign of a big fat rejection. What a tease. I for sure thought it was going to be an application decision. Bummer....
Very nice Tecture... Super Clean layout. easy to follow.
My one critique is to take it easy on the toner, if not just for the earth's sake. The full page black spreads look great on screen, but they are just wasteful otherwise.
tecture or alex_ great news, man! i'm really super happy for you since i know that's your top choice. how much it tuition at risd? 12k is a lot. that's really awesome. how exciting!
i applied to risd too, but haven't heard from them all though. though today, i got an email requesting proof of us citizenship for financial aid. the only other schools who have requested this are u of mich and cca, and i've been admitted to both. not sure what to think, but hoping it's a positive sign of things to come...
and yes, i should have tuned down the black... sigh... ill consider it the next time i apply to schools, which is like never! but, mboy, you have made me more aware. arigato.
hey mountainboy. i got the same email today about UT Austin's summer program, and i never applied there or signed up for anything at that school...not sure how they got my email address. strange...
i think gsd's acceptances are coming via USPS this year in waves. Fedex packages only were used for people outside of the US. money is tight at the gsd these days, haha! i wish they would just break tradition and send emails...
GSD probably is sending out scrolls with wax seals. mostly using knights on horses, going from door to door far and wide to spread the enlightened word.
talking about zero carbon footprint. and producing natural fertilizer on the way.
Thanks voneckht, and congrats to you too.
I'm still waiting on other schools (Berkeley, GSD and Penn).
I'm in the same boat with money. Columbia didn't offer any aid, so I'm going to have to do some digging (and begging).
Are you leaning towards the MSAUD program? I'm still learning about it and planning on going to the open house. Hope to maybe see you there..
hahaha like it........they may also include a little trumpeter to accompany a formal reading of this wax laden scroll in front of the first person that answers the door even if that is your little 5 year old sister.
alex11
yea MSAUD was my top choice so I am really excited. Also waiting on Berkeley and GSD. I went to the open house in the fall and got a great feeling about the program.
What I am wondering is about the tuition breakdown. 19,950 per semester so does this include the summer??? 3x19,950??? that could get ugly even with aid.
Thanks Bird. I'm working on the portfolio upload. Will post when it's ready. Please don't judge me! I'm a terrible procrastinator and found myself applying with a less of an Architect-y portfolio than an Art-y one.
Thanks so much to everyone who gave me feedback on my portfolio.
Most of it seems like stuff I can fix pretty easily. After seeing other portfolios on the site I did realize I needed more process drawings. It just seems the school I went to put much more emphasis on digital media/renderings than process for final boards. Now I just have to go dig up all my sketches from back in the day.
For the graphic stuff, I'll do some research like you guys said. Solid suggestions. Now that stuff has been pointed out I can see what I need to work on.
Once again, thank you. Your help has been much appreciated!
i have to tell you that your portfolio is by far my favorite of all i've seen. and i've seen amazing ones. yunez's is also one of my top faves, thought he doesn't have a previous arch background. too cool for school, without trying too hard. such a crazy perfect balance of artstic and technical, analog and digital, black & white and color. seriously, wow! i really love it.
makes me excited about taubman. i know you did your undergrad there, but how was your experience? any word on their graduate program? damn! damn! damn!
You give me a teeny bit of hope regarding RISD.I'm probably academically not as strong as some people who got into ivies, but I am a mostly kinesthetic learner, so I feel that I would get the most out of Sci-ARC or RISD.
In general I've gotten the impression that the RISD undergrads were very open-minded, and multi-talented. GSD seems like the holy grail (and I did apply, just to see what their rejection letter said), but gosh, the photos of the people on the GSD website seemed drab and allergic to fun (no offense to anyone who has decided to go there). RISD students also seem to have cooler haircuts.
Once again, congratulations. As for the University Of Oregon: It's probably their loss.
naomi. tell me you included the flute. that was really really cool. i'd say you had the best instrumental form project. you and that asian guy who did like a million iterations...
you're a natural though. no judging here. all love!
I included the flute. However, the scans/pictures were so bad from my analog drawing, that I only included photoshopped parts of them on a page with the digital drawing.
i'm sure it looks great, nonetheless. what's your top choice or choices and what school are you currently leaning towards? cca with $$$ is pretty sweet. where and in what did you get your undergrad?
i'd be cool if you posted your portfolio here, but if you're shy, you can email it to me too. but screw that, be proud of your work! you busted your ass and your work is great so...yeah!
I'm trying to upload it to Issuu. It's taking forever. First time failed... don't know why.
It's hard to have a top choice. I only applied to large cities (that I want to live in) because I'll be moving myself and my sig other for at least 3 years. He doesn't want to be in CA anymore because we'll probably come back here to settle, but shouldn't I go to school where I ultimately plan to live?
I'm a Berkeley native. Berkeley High '01. Oberlin College '07 - BA in Studio Art. Sick of working food service.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
yup, I'll be at the U mich open house. Nice that they pay for it :)
anyone heard anything else from Austin.
or does silence = ye old rejection?
direccion opuesa: I do believe we know each other ;) congrats on the good news!

and yes, I get the feeling that SILENCE = YE OLD REJECTION at Austin...
chucko.. I like that portfolio, esp the t.o.c. that's neat.
sorry to hear, guyforget

I got good news from Columbia this morning. In for MSAUD. Is anyone else thinking of studying urban design at columbia?
so much relief and happiness! imma join the list/portfolio post bandwaggon.

is anyone out there going to RISD next fall?

Congrats to on RISD!
OMG I got rejected! I'm so happy! This is truly my dream come true.

mountainboy -- i wouldn't feel too insulted. i also got that email from UT and i didn't apply there. not sure how they got my email address.
Sorry about that last comment... but I thought I'd mix it up a bit... seems like it's all good news... any bad news to even things out?
mountainboy - also got that email from UT, didn't apply there as well.
i think they got our address from the GRE, i've been getting all sorts of junk mail from schools after i took it.
on second thought, maybe i should be insulted too...
ha! how typical of them to screen us filipinos.
and yes, i should have tuned down the black... sigh... ill consider it the next time i apply to schools, which is like never! but, mboy, you have made me more aware. arigato.

very typical... after all, they call us "little brown monkeys"
i swear i'm a us citizen. i resisted for a while, but it's just easier to be a citizen of the country you live in. :/

congratulations. I am in MSAUD as well. Trying to figure out the finances. How's it looking for you? Are you waiting on any other schools?

Nice Razvan. I needed something like that thought!

NAOMI!!! i was hoping it was you. i totally remember you, girl.
you should totally share you're portfolio, because you are seriously one of the more gifted "drawers"
i want to see the flute. and how they look like the oakland cranes. oak town in the house.
congrats on all your admissions! you're an artist, for reals. :D
Razvan: LOOOOLLLL!!

Anyone know if GSD is still sending out FedEx to international applicants?

ncro54,
I am in the same schools and fund as you(CCA, Pratt, and SAIC).
What's your priority for now?
Does GSD send out in waves? With earliest wave this year being last week?
Anyone know?

How many of you are international and have already been accepted to GSD? And where do you live?
