Hello everybody,
Can you explain please, what exactly is the differences between interrior design and sustainable design. The specialist who redesign the functions(the restaurant instead of an old factory)is an interrior designer or sustainable.
No, it's more like asking the difference between a large 24oz cup of 3-day old gas station coffee and this blue pen I am currently holding.
Interior Design = paint colours and arguing about the importance of their profession
Sustainable Design = Cannot be achieved through paint, furniture and fabric choices. That bamboo flooring will give you points with your organic green hippy nonsense client, but it's more complicated than that.
bamboo flooring is made from a product that is grown new every year, as compared to something like oak, which takes 10+ years to grow. that is a sustainable design choice, because the land and resources required to make your flooring in a cradle-to-cradle view are less than most alternatives.
i don't think it has anything to do with cars, coffee, or pens. interior design is the design of interiors. sustainable design is making sustainable design choices. "sustainable" in this case means things that will sustain (able to be maintained at a certain rate or level) the resources currently available to us in our environment. using more wood or electricity than we are producing would be the opposite of 'sustainable.'

That's kind of like asking the difference between a Honda and a hybrid car.
Interior design can be sustainable, but sustainable design does not have to be interior design.

In my experience it's always been inferior design.
"Interior designers are a valuable profession! I don't understand the contempt for them here."
It's the same contempt that engineers have for architects.
Architects design....Interior designers shop.
