What Architectural firms do you think have the best websites and why?

It is simple, clear, and straighforward. No silly bells and whistles.

I like helmutlang.com for the same reasons.

Sam Sung - it is certainly free of silly bells and whistles, as well as any content...

I like J.Mayer H, and Archea,

That SHoP page is really nice.

The Brooklyn Foundry make pages for lots of firms and do consistently good work.

I also like this.

Alphanumerica,

Amongst other things, I collect architects websites, particularly Australiasian ones. Most of my favourites are on my laptop at my other office, but here are a few more:

Dale Jones Evans
Six Degrees
John Wardle Architects
John Pawson
Stephane Beel
Architectus

Aren't you all getting a little flashed out and the little loading icon. Flash was in when everyone had the Matrix 1 screensaver on their computers.

I like http://www.yehjerrard.com/

It's direct and playful at the same time.

a few years ago macromedia loader popup made such a pest of itself, i put macromedia into my hosts file. so swf sites are useless scumware to me.

Not architects, but the site couldn't be simpler to use. Totally straightforward and relies on quality of the work, not the web  site

Aren't most of these websites designed for other architects to gawk at?  As an architecture student who is always on the lookout for intriguing ideas I despise swimming  through websites similar to BIGDSR, and especially Nouvel.

These are my main compaints...

  • Intro Pages
  • Slow Flash animations
  • Pages opening in new windows
  • Navigation that goes too deep

Don't get me wrong, some of these sites are definitely cool, but I can't stand to visit them more than once.  Does anyone else feel the same way?

Umm... not a single one of these websites that have been listed, whether its posts from 2004 to the recent ones, are good. They are all absolutely horrible except maybe leong leong's site, which is nice graphically, but even so can be confusing with its total lack of hierarchy.

And BIG's pop up windows? What is this? Are we still in 1995? No one likes pop up windows.

And to all the rest, please stop making your entire website in flash. We know people hate it. We now have HTML5, SVG, CSS and Javascript. Make use of it. It is hard to think of many uses of Flash for an architecture website.

I wonder if these architects hire graphic designers to do their webpages or try to do it themselves. Either the problem is they always hire bad graphic / web designers or they wrongly believe that they themselves are graphic / web designers.
