Hi everyone, i just wrapped up my layout of my portfolio to apply for internships this summer. I'm a third year bArch at PSU. I figured i'd run it by all you archinectors, if anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You're wearing the shirt of the band you're goin to see? Don't be that guy.
Ok, to make this less of a worthless post, I'm not down with the text size/right justification of your text. When there's only three words a line, its difficult to read.
i really like your final rendering, and I feel it's stronger than being the after thought to your port.
the file you uploaded has a couple blank pages and pretty low res pictures. i assume you would fix this before printing.
depending on where you are applying for internships, having a portfolio that is so computer rendering heavy might pigeon-hole you.
take it or leave it, but if it were me i would add more hand-drafted plans/sections/renderings. labelled with their media, of course ('ink on vellum'). you might even consider labelling all your work with their respective methods of creation... ie, note what software was used for the computer work.
also, more white space. some of those pages were on the cusp of being crowded.
yeah, about the low-res, the images themselves are really hi-res, but in order to get the file to around 3mb for the pdf, i had to export it at a low-res. i did this so the download isn't ridiculous, and i also noticed that most firms ask for files limited to 3mb.
nice work, but if you choose to include text, it definitely needs to improve quite a bit. at this point, i would say it almost detracts from what you are showing us.
First off, it seems like you have some great projects to work with. I agree with aaandrew in that you could probably enhance the aesthetic your page layouts by playing around with the spatial organization. I'm sure you've heard this many times before but just to reiterate "White space is your friend :) " I like the sequencing of your portfolio content. I think the competition piece at the end is your strongest piece and could benefit from including more diagrams/dwgs demonstrating your process. Maybe this would be a good place to add some hand-dwgs/plans/working models to tone down the strong emphasis on 3d-rendering in your portfolio....oh, one last thing...try and think of your text blocks as images and place them accordingly. Right now it seems like the text has just been inserted wherever there was room left over, adding to the "crowding effect" aa mentioned earlier. Anyway, just another opinion. Your projects look really interesting,...now its just a matter of working on a method of presentation that does them justice. Goodluck!

this might be a bit OT, but fraser/thorp/hajjar, what program were they drawn with?

cad, do you mean the renderings? they were formZ, CAD for all the plans etc. FormZ for all of the renderings
-xacto, do you mean the layout, or amount? or do you mean what i acturly wrote?
both, but i was talking about your sentence structure and diction.
the link is not working for me
