Whoa! I just read that my elementary school friend's dad will be the CEO of the "New Chrysler". Sure, he gave money to Bush's campaign, but he let us watch the Fly and play with a ouija board. We were 10!
'95 Escort hatchback. Slow and ugly, but reliable and cheap. Fits a LOT of crap in the back, with the rear seats folded down. The last big thing I moved was a large 3-seater sofa.
The g/f and I just sold our motorcycles before we moved this summer. This is the first summer in a long while that I haven't had a motorcycle.
On the other hand, we've got 4 bicycles, recently downsized from 9.
And two skateboards.
I live half a block away from work, so most of it just stays parked. Kinda funny, actually.
Till about a month ago was driving a 87 Honda accord with 213,000 miles on it. Had no power steering, windshield wiper switch snapped off so wipers were always on (got the strangest looks from people when it was a beautiful sunny day and our wipers were going off) and a rotted radiator. But the car ran. Before moving to NYC found a charity that helps refugees here in the US that wanted the car.
Steven, I know several architects that have civic hybrids....but none with a prius. Is that an architect thing?
I've got an 8 year old Accord with the 4 cyl that gets about 34mpg on the highway if I watch the speed. As good or better than all the current year cars in that class.
I use the roof rack for hauling plywood/gypsum. Fold the back seat down and have hauled 12' lumber. Even had 6 landscape timbers in there no problem. Being just shy of 200k miles and zero problems what-so-ever I can't complain. Bought it used and aside from a random road trip now and then it gets very few miles put on it, since driving less is the most "green" thing you can do. Same goes for not buying a pickup to do things my car can already do.
Also have 3 bikes that get a lot of use in the summer months.
We barely drive anymore but we have in the garage an MCS 05 John Cooper worked out with BBS rgr's anthracite wheels, and other goodies.
(about 15k mostly from our LA summer days back in 05)
Car hasn't been used in 2 months because we live in NYC!
regarding architects and the civic hybrid, i don't know why others would choose civic over hybrid - especially because, as i noted, the civic is deadly boring.
but i chose the civic because in '03 the prius still felt like a science project. all the gadgets were continually reminding you what was going on with it and the radio was a touchscreen that went away and returned to some sort of hyrbrid-process display when you stopped messing with the radio. the new ones seem better and less goofy.
my choice of the civic was that, once you decided you wanted a hybrid and drove it off the lot, it looks like a car and acts like a car and it doesn't advertise itself too much.
