what building would you bulldoze

blackturtleneck

Suppose you could destroy any building, which one would you choose?

hm.Start with suburbia(cookie cutter housing, stereotypical shopping complexes, fast food chains) then work the way to the city(block offices, block skyscrapers)..

oh we can't leave all the god of them all.. WAL-MART SUPERCENTER

DIE DIE DIE!

Oh what fun it would be..

Well, to clarify, I would bulldoze savoy because I'm sick of hearing about it in school, and I just think it's ugly. There were a lot of neat ideas there, but it's just not my cup of tea.

After Orhan posted that picture, it reminded me of the exact replica of the Roby house someone is building in Lubbock...only with 10' ceilings. I'll post pictures sometime tomorrow. That's my new vote.

what's wrong with the oma project, meta? i've visited those in berlin and, while the eisenman is a stinker, the oma wasn't. didn't see the zaha; it may not have been there in 1990. doesn't look bad from here.

...OH, where did the IBM building go?!?! Guess Trump owns Chicago, now.

(might as well let him drop of ton of his vulgar money before getting the deed done!)

you guys who would bulldoze capital 'a' architecture - whether you like the work or not - are nuts! i'm no fan of ricardo bofill, but the worst bofill is better than the best stucco developer special.

metamechanic, sorry to get a bit personal, but i'd look into my own backyard before wanting to 'bulldoze' architectures which do make a case in point. Just glancing through the 'metamechanics llc' site i dont see any thing i would not bulldoze after they get built.

Personally, The Dancing House, makes me want to vomit. I am actually interested in the Engineering of this building than the architecture.

Nashville celebrates the Tomato (A Uniter, Not a Divider - Bringing Together Fruits and Vegetables) by holding a Tomato Art Festival across the river in a historic neighbordhood called Edgefield. One of the events during the festival includes a tomato toss at a building that will soon be demolished.

The demolitions are somewhat symbolic for this neighborhood that has turned around significantly in the past 5 years. The structures that have been removed had a reputation for being the breeding grounds for drugs and sex. As gentrification sweeps up the neighborhood, more and more developers are purchasing such establishments only to tear down and create a snazzy new mixed use building.

So as the story goes, the Farmer's Market donates their overripe (please note: never use the word rotten in front of a farmer) tomatos for the event. It starts early with tons and tons of little kids standing in front of their buckets of tomatos. Then we toss and toss and toss until all 200 lbs of overripe tomatos are dripping down the exterior walls of some dilapidated structure. Then the crowd stands back while a big Bobcat takes it swings at the building. It's a great event. And it deals with bulldozing so I felt it belongs in this thread.

Here are some pics from last Saturday's event.

I think people are bulldozing the capital "A" architecture here for the laughs and keeping in the spirit of the thread.

So I'd bulldoze:

Just because its so damn pretty and everyone seems to love it.
