ok I'll start the new one in honor of a story NPR did yesterday...
guess the artist, song, and what 'big deal' performance it was part of...
Well, Im going away, baby
And I wont be back to fall
Well, Im going away baby
And I wont be back to fall
And if I find me a good girl
I wont, I wont be back at all
Damn. I know its the Animals. I just can't remember the name of the song. I used to work at an icecream shop in highschool and all we were allowed to listen to was moldy oldies. I remember this ALWAYS came on, but I just can't remember the whole song or what it's called.
well, because it didn't get answered, i'll answer my last one. that was 'i walk on gilded splinters', a classic by the one and only dr john (of whom you MUST have heard, r fuller!).
HA. Turned on the radio. I figured it would come on sooner or later. Sure enough. See See Rider by Elvis? It had never dawned on me those were the same song by different artists. Just never payed attention.
Crap SW. I hadn't realized that was a Dr. John song. My search came up with Paul Weller. I have heard of Dr. John, although I must admit he's not in my daily listening list.
rfuller, i've got the paul weller version of the song too, from his stanley road album (with noel gallagher from oasis). you might know paul weller as the voice of both the jam and style council if you don't know him solo.
Children are taught to hate, parents just couldn't wait
Some are rich and some are poor, others will just suffer more
Have you ever been ashamed and felt society try to keep you down?
I begin to watch things change and see them turn around
after chorus... Ignorance like a gun in hand, reach out to the promised land
Your history books are full of lies, media-blitz gonna dry your eyes
Have you ever been afraid, and felt society try to keep you down?
I begin to watch things change see them turn around
c'mon 'nectors....SoCal band. Lead singer lives in Laguna Beach. Have had lot's of hits, but one of their big ones was a cover of Johnny Cash's biggest hit.
im in my driest drought
feeling old and shot and how...
and this is what i thought: i seem to still be caught
im a foot note at best
i envy who comes next...
wish we could just make out
the hours almost up
you said into your cup
and it makes no difference now
as i help lift your bags out
im lost and out or rope
as on my wrist you wrote
your newest number down
Allright - alright
-it was definatly hard if your not into the sceen - and even if you are i was still hard
-Grateful Dead - China Cat Sunflower
Look for a while at the China Cat sunflower,
Proud walking jingle in the midnight sun.
Copperdome bodhi drip a silver kimono,
Like a crazy quilt stargown through a dream night wind.
Crazy cat peekin' through a lace bandanna,
Like a one-eyed Cheshire, like a diamond-eye jack.
A leaf of all colors plays a golden-string fiddle,
To a double-E waterfall over my back.
Comic book colors on a violin river Cryin' Leonardo,
Words from out a silk trombone.
I rang a silent bell, beneath a shower of pearls,
In the eagle-winged palace of the Queen Chinee.
"If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung
Would you hear my voice come through the music
Would you hold it near as it were your own?"
-In light of today August 1st - name the lyricist, band, and song
-should be easy - it was covered many times
Happy birthday, in deed. The Dead are one of my all time favorite bands. That was a gimme. So was China Cat Sunflower, but I wasn't on when you posted that.
Currently one of my favorite songs. This is my most played song on my iPod.
No time left now for shame
Horizon behind me, no more pain
Windswept stars blink and smile
Another song, another mile
You read the line every time
Ask me about crime in my mind
Ask me why another read song
Funny but I bet you never left home
And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone
Alright, I googled it. I was right. So, here's the next one.
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
Shes coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, hurry boy, its waiting there for you
coincidently, my other "tab" is open to travelzoo's airfares to Johannesburg.
new song, hmmm....
pick a decade to guess the artist.
A child arrived just the other day,
came to the world in the usual way,
But there were planes to catch
and bills to pay, he learned to walk while I was away
He was talking before I knew it and as he grew
he said I'm going to be like you Dad,
you know I'm going to be like you.
official 'guess the lyrics' game

I suppose this is payback for Funk No. 49
ooh....upon further research, I didn't realize how many people sang this song and I'm not sure who sang it first.
But the story wasn't about the Animals.

not country AT ALL, whattodo! not even close.
rfuller, i've got the paul weller version of the song too, from his stanley road album (with noel gallagher from oasis). you might know paul weller as the voice of both the jam and style council if you don't know him solo.
Alright SW, you wanna take another one? I was gonna do Amos Moses by Jerry Reed, but I figured no one else would know that song.
haha SW....you've gotta admit the lyrics look rather country!
rf- you're right. it was part the Elvis:'Aloha From Hawaii' special that was the first concert to be broadcast on TV via satellite.
link
go ahead rf. i'm sort of around, trying to get some other stuff done but willing to be distracted.
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars
Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars
Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please?
If I open my door
In cars
Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars
gary numan's 'cars', natch.
you flicker and you're beautiful
you glow inside my head
you hold me hypnotized
i'm mesmerized
your flames
the flames that kiss me dead
oh dust my lemon lies
with powder pink and sweet
the day i stop
is the day you change
and fly away from me
I heart SW for The Cure's "The Caterpillar"
Some are rich and some are poor, others will just suffer more
