Simple question: I am working in New York on my IDP credits. I have an accredited masters in architecture--how long should I expect to intern before being able to sit for the ARE, and ultimately gaining licensure?
New York is similar to most other states. Assuming you're not grandfather-claused by having started your IDP record prior to the late 1990s, you'd need a minimum of 3 years of internship if you have only a B.Arch or a first-professional M.Arch. If you have a "post-pro" M.Arch in ADDITION to a B.Arch then you can get up to 6 months of IDP units for the second degree. (Up until 2002 you could get about a year of IDP units for a post-pro M.Arch.)
