When you think about an independent work what comes first?
I am thinking - what do I need to start on my own? Have you started with friends from school, or work or....? Of course, I have some experience, I know some people, but I am not sure it is enough. When you know that you are ready ?
when your side work becomes too much to handle in addition to your regular work. just make sure that whenever you do go out on your own-or start a business that you have enough work to pay the bills. several people I know have gotten together(friends from school)... you know them pretty good considering you went to school with them and worked for a number of years.
having 6 months living expenses in the bank is a good rule of thumb, as you will sit and wait from time to time, sometimes that time can be longer than you'd like
