My hunch is almost certainly. Except I don't know what camper shoes are. I have two pairs of tan leather boots I'm very fond of; sort of the footwear equivalent of the SUV.
I struggle, jbirl... I'm haunted by the spectre of not knowing what I don't know. But at least I know I don't know what camper shoes are. I'll put it down as an aim on my professional development plan to inform myself ;-)
i also had no idea that people in the u.s. didn't know what
campers were...there've been ads about campers in mags
for years...and we have a store here in nyc...i would've thought
they have em in other towns as well.
uh no. but they will make you look like every other architect you know.
blundstone boots, on the other hand, will make you a better architect, since you'll be able to walk your muddy jobsites with impunity, knowing that your boots are waterproof and can be wiped off very easily when you have to go out on a date later on.
I am now appraised of imagery from Serkan's link. I've seen the like before but it's not a brand name I'm familiar with from the UK. We have Doc Martens (very swinging sixties...) that fall into a similar territory although these seam to also veer in a leathery direction to Converses and other trainers (which you guys call pumps, right?).
At least I know now why I don't find camping very comfortable. I thought it was the cramped conditions / insects / cold / poor sanitary facilities / no proper mattress but, of course, it's just that I've been wearing the wrong shoes.
WOW solidred.....you never really did see campers in the UK?
Whilst living there I saw a few stores that carried campers, hell I think I even saw a camper store in centre of London.
but the shoe of choice seemed to be merrills, now those are pretty comfy, don't know if they make you a better architect or not, but I sure do like dem! (hard to find here in the US).

Ofcourse you do. You can travel the world, check out architecture and not worry about your shoes failing on you. And girls are attracted to camper shoes, in my case atleast.
Your corbusier/cokebottle/horn-rim/clear acrylic frame/ insisting-on-making-glasses-an-identity statement, glasses. Seems to go well with the POMO generation.
Typically found on the the more older architect who is trying to strike that more mature intelectual yet whimisical playfull look. Or on douchebags in there late 20's who secretly cant seem to find dates and dont know why.
can you wear campers and prada shoes at the same time? i can't afford either.
--Your Addidas sandals with socks and running pants(if you happen to be Korean)
not just a korean thing. my HS girlfriend was laotian and she rocked the soccer sandals. of course she was the captain of the girls' soccer team. i of course hated that look, but you don't change those whom you love.

I have only one black shirt, I wear it to night clubs, not crits.
--Your Moleskin notebook which you fill up the first 35 pages and then throw away. Makes you look like you are running off to class at all hours of the day.

--Your Scarf you like to wear wich makes you look like Dr. Who

Don't like Radiohead. On the weekends, it's the "Architecture Sucks" shirt.
--Your Moleskin notebook which you fill up the first 35 pages and then throw away. Makes you look like you are running off to class at all hours of the day.
--I bought a moleskine sketchbook. I hated it. Why are the pages made of cardstock!?!
Thus why mine still has one sketch in it.
--Your Ikea furniture
I love Ikea. I really do. I will unashamedly decorate my home in 90% Ikea, when I get one.
not to sound out of touch (which I don't think I am) but what the F** is a moleskine what-cha-macallit......I never seen or heard of that? And the next question is...
you bought the wrong one...not that everyone needs a moleskine..
there are several kinds..one has thin unlined paper..the one you have
that has the cardstock like paper..(i guess for watercolors?) etc. etc.
(you want the plain notebook one)
i like it for on the subway and the like when i want a sketchbook
in my pocket. i also use an gridded engineering notebook as
a sketchbook which i like...they're $7 bucks and 1-1/2 times the
size of the moleskine.
Lars, I have several as a result of my sketchbook addiction, but I've only used one. You're right about the paper types. My moleskine weekly planner has the thinner paper. I too prefer the gridded paper for a sketchbook, maybe because I'm not a good sketcher.
Ha, I got the red moleskine dayplanner. It was the only one I could find which was a) small and unobtrusive and b) had notes on one side and the entire week on the other. PERFECT, I am in love.
AHH YES larslarson (sounds like a superhero name)
I have seen and own a few of them (the white paper ones without any lines) These are sweet. Well come to think of it, maybe they aren't moleskine....I got them in europe....specifically, in a barcelona bookshop.
i bought a moleskine journal a few years back, and upon returning home from the store, i realized it was not a journal, but an address book. now my months are not January-to-December, but A-to-Z, and it was the best journal i've ever had.
Damnation I wish I'd not been aware that Moleskine made a day planner...now I'm gonna have to get one.
My current sketchbook is swag from a British fabric company - it's got a pink floral pattern on it and believe me it's so far beyond cool because the pink pattern is flocked.
not quite sure why there is all this discussion about euro-trash shoes - such as campers, when the only real footwear, fit for an architect - american or international - is a good pair of cowboy boots.
personally, i have 12 pairs right now, but only 4 in active duty.
i prefer Tony Lama, or Noconas, or Lucchese.
Current models in use are:
Goatskin: - very soft and comfortable from first fitting
Kangaroo: - nice colours, with quite durable skin
Bullhide: - best for site visits
Lizard: - works well at client presentations
Ostrich: - (the underbelly skin - not the raised quill side) again, very soft
I'm plain scared to even open the sketch book I recieved for my birthday.....It looks like every drawing in this one has to be ready to hit the press for publication. I have no idea where it came from but it is a leather binding with leather ties, and paper one could easily drool on ....I just look at it and say......one of these days when I'm really inspired. . . until then it sits on my night table.
if you wear throwback nikes you break the mould that Architects seem to fit themselves into:
-black slacks
-black shirt
-geek glasses
-short hair
-simple and minimal shoes
-over-the-shoulder bag in either burnt orange or sage green.
-thin and elegant watches.
said this before and I'll say it again... for being such a creative field, architects dress pretty boring. mostly...
so i take it that oversized yellow galoshes and a secondhand bearskin rug fashioned into a pseudo man-diaper does not qualify as architecture clothing?
This thread's beginning to look like a battle between flock wallpaper and the hides of marsupials / small rodents.
I'd go for a mini-computer in fake alligator skin.
I remember failing a project back in the early nineties: the failure due, I suspect, to advocating the return of wallpaper in architecture. See, my problem has often been to be too far ahead of a trend, heh.
if you wear camper shoes do you become a better architect :)

sorry guys..things don't go there like, it does in turkey..i didn't know :)
of course they do, what a question...
and don´t forget the swatch watch and the ipod.

campers are soooooo 2001
that said, they never really went out of style, and i think they're ready for a big comeback
i live in retro waiting for things to come back in style
uh no. but they will make you look like every other architect you know.
blundstone boots, on the other hand, will make you a better architect, since you'll be able to walk your muddy jobsites with impunity, knowing that your boots are waterproof and can be wiped off very easily when you have to go out on a date later on.
I do imagine they would make you a better camper.

i'm sure you've seen them if you've been in any kind of art/paper
