Im researching papers for my portfolio. Anybody know of anything nice and different that can easily be printed on. Im open to anything, translucents, thin, thick, whatever...
i was pretty curious how people might answer like a jackass on this one.. i did not consider paper towels... good one guys.. this was really worthwhile.
the guys at dunder mifflin (paper company). ask for dwight. hes the man.
i used vellum before, but depends on whether you rprinter can handle it... also, let it dryyy.
ive used brown packaging paper (grocery bags), the quality wasn thta good, but that crappy print actually looked semi interesting when it was actually used for my portfolio.
oh, also, go to a book binding store/book binding company. they usually have cool papers and binding methods too, if you are looking for something more crafty. or laser cut thin metal (that is bendable/plyable) (used before on my portfolio, and its oh so sexy)
my favorite is Red River's Zeppelin 45# Semi-gloss, it's a good paper to print double-sided with and works well with my pro epson and a my cheapo epson printers…the only problem is that it doesn't take pens/markers well so writing on it after printing is not so good (something to do with the coating)
c2- did we live up to your expectations about how snarky we'd be?
I'm guessing that you're printing up a folio for your west coast adventures- a jobs book is different from a grad school app book. but then we've been discussing those things elsewhere.
yeah not bad.. i guess i expected this discussion to run off on a tangent and ending with something about pizza or minneapolis. So i guess i was satisfied, although I still dont know what I will use still. Metal seems extreme, mylar seems hackneyed, and im not too too concerned with what kind of white paper Ill use for my pages. I guess I should have specified that I am thinking mostly about the cover. Im thinking synthetic. And considering laser cutting some text or graphics.

Staples brand double matte paper has a really nice coating on it - no different than Epson double matte, but much cheaper. I use it all the time.
