1-2-3 ...The competition is on ... WHAT WOULD U DO?

ET

Here's a dilemma...
I've participated in a couple of architecture competitions...
What would u go 4 ?
1)- u do ur shit regardless of evthg

2)- u take into consideration that most jurys have non-architect as members (which do not favour very modern à la Zaha or à la Coop projects) that is if they ever get anything - one time they couldnt even figure out what the volume looked like.. I admit it looked creepy -then u opt 4 a decent way out, u wanna win so u do the contemporary shit we get from useless ppl like Meier, Ando ... and their friends.

3)- u think its a waste of time, dnt even compete

or any other proposal is welcome

i would....

-pay attention to the kind of competition and how much money it will pay and see the rate work/time spent - possible profit

-pay attention to the jury and see is ots worth it to risk on the proposal or not

- burn the competition brief

- make sure to invite to dinner memebers of the jury with some other justification...

- find a way to get invited to closed competitions

I wholeheartedly agree, SuperBeatledud.

And MAD's advice is right on, ET. I'll add: if you want to win, think politically. If you want to do the competition for the experience, as portfolio content, etc., do what you want to do and don't worry about the brief or jury.

Et i don't thi k you have realised by zaha and co are winning all the comps because beurocrats get impressed by images more than rational thinking.

the fact that you have to ask what to do means maybe you shouldn't enter. if you have vision, you would do what you wanted to do.

If you are doing something you believe in, do the competition.
If you are doing it expecting to win don't waste your time.

Contradiction?

You need to do it for yourself.

I did it already. and it's over.
still waiting for the results.
but i looked around, i saw majorly what i can put it as "neat designs" and here i was with something that looked like a lab architecture compared to that.
i mean those projects can start execution the next day ! while mine is like conceptual !
don't know what they'll go for yet. but just felt bizarre . hehe
