just got back from divign in cozumel.. absolutly incredible... the water is crystal clear, can see up to 250-300' sometimes... locals friendly.. very laid back.. strong ass margaritas and good freagin times...
Lac Bay, Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles (swimming, windsurfing, just hanging out)
Mother's Beach, Aruba, Netherlands Antilles (for sociability, not for waves)
I actually live in Bermuda now. There are some pretty decent beaches here as well! I visited Destin regularly from 1986-96, senior trip and all… (then I finished school/ left Louisiana) I lived in Venice, CA for 10 years after that. I have friends in Louisiana who still go to Destin every year for their family vacation. It is a gem…an emerald to be specific!
I have friends working in Lafayette and New Orleans.
best New England area beaches found on the National Seashore of Cape Cod.
- Head of the Meadow = top notch for normal, public beach. rolling dunes and not overcrowded.
- Marconi = parking lot on the top of a large dune, looking out you can see the curvature of the earth. very crowded though, and rocky sand
- Race Point in P-town = not crowded, can only get there by driving your truck or SUV out onto the tip of cape cod. need to get an oversand permit from the rangers.
- my favorite on the cape has to be Monomoy Island though - you can only get there by boat. it is truely amazing
, really? i haven't been up there in about four years... except for one night of motorcycle week last year. swimming in winnipesaukee sure does beat the frigid atlantic around here though. still, i love rye beach, nh... free on street parking, quiet, clean beach and half way between hampton beach and downtown portsmouth.
Surf, CA - 10 miles west of Lompoc, surrounded by Vandenberg AFB.
You can step on plover nests while gazing at the rockets on the hill tops. Plus there is an amtrack station next to the parking lot.
Pismo Beach, CA - camping on the sand with ATVs roaring around you untill the wee hours of the morn when the rednecks all pass out. how young is too young to be driving something that can kill you? I saw 5 & 6 year-olds on child sized 4 wheelers the last time I was there.
Carpenteria, CA the best surfing break is next to the oil pier jutting out to the horizon.
I'll second Marconi Beach on CC- is the radio tower foundation still there?
hampton beach during the off season with slight snow is amazing.
I was up at Cape Cod this past weekend and would have to push for the beaches on the bay side, although they're not the same without the view of the target ship.
like sabbo above, i grew up in destin/fwb/walton county in northwest florida. luckily, we still have the house on the beach this is the view from our backyard - of course two hurricanes over the past year + have wiped away the dock. sigh...
crap. missed on the code for the photo. anyone know how to do it if you're just pulling it from the local drive? the code below seems geared towards downloading it from another site...
The Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City, Queens, New York. Okay, so it's more like an outdoor bar with volleyball, a dj and lots of picnic benches, but it's got a killer view of midtown Manhattan and it's easy-peasy to get to.

Went to a beach in Malmo, Sweden that was amazing.
Went to a beach on Lake Balaton, Hungary that was like warm and muddy bathwater.
South Padre Island is a good beach if you avoid the spring break crowd...same goes for S. Florida beaches.
sabbo - is that Destin, FL? I spent many summers there myself (driving in from Lousiana...) Best sand in the US!

Nice, db. It's cool out by Opononi. I like the little place where the ferry goes across, too (Rawene is it?).
treekiller... do you mean little rincon/mussel shoals? cause rincon is just the next point up and even better...
anyone in the LA area, check out the shipwreck hike in palos verdes (do it on a lowtide and return before it comes in...)
Antman, Mussel Shoals- thats the name- I always stop when heading up the 101 and never really fixed the proper name to that beach with the oil pier.
hampton beach during the off season with slight snow is amazing.
I was up at Cape Cod this past weekend and would have to push for the beaches on the bay side, although they're not the same without the view of the target ship.
I kinda like the Beaches in Rio....all of them...and oh ya the women

AP Treasure Beach is surely beautiful
but I also forgot about Lime Quay - a lovely 1/2 mile sand barge off the south coast of Jamaica
laru, you can't pull it from your c drive, have to upload to flickr or other.
Cannon Beach, Oregon is probably my favorite
Too cold for much swimming most of the year, but I'm scared of sealife anyway so walking knee-deep is fine.
ahhh... thanks liberty bell. that explains that.
Third Beach and Wreck Beach in Vancouver.
the hamptons are pretty sweet (see the peter cook thread)
wildwood NJ
outer banks, especially the lower part
martha's vineyard
eveywhere else is just plain exotic and makes me think 'wild on' with jules asner
agfa8x - great beaches west of Aukland- small surf at karekare is 6ft!
Best Urban Beach:
The Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City, Queens, New York. Okay, so it's more like an outdoor bar with volleyball, a dj and lots of picnic benches, but it's got a killer view of midtown Manhattan and it's easy-peasy to get to.
Water Taxi Beach
I'm with snooker on this one....Rio beaches are the best! So much activity and really picturesque.
Also, I went to a beach on the Big Island about a year ago and that was really nice. Can't remember the name.
Has no on really mentioned the Algarve?!
hmmm...i'd contest the best outdoor urban beach one. i would argue that the best urban beaches are in chicago:
[this doesn't include ones in florida or hawaii]
Yeah except the water seems kinda gross in Chicago :(
well, it can't be any worse than it is in new york
