florida panhandle. literally, all three shots are the backyard where i grew up. we had a state park on either side of our little town (and i mean little - maybe 100 full time residents up through when i was in high school).
this is up at grayton beach - just east of seaside. most of that area used to be very much like st. george. now.... not so much. our little slice is still in a kind of time warp. the west side of town is completely different...

Byron Bay, NSW, Australia
... or Alma Bay on Magnetic Island in Queensland
Hah, just read up the thread and realized this is over three years old - and I posted the exact some thing back then, too!
For those talking about urban beaches: the best I've ever seen are around Sydney. I liked Australia a lot.
Me too.. Sydney's urban beaches... Yes Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi. Add Clovelly Bay next bay, walking via Waverley Cemetry as well.
Here is the beach north of Wauwinet, on Nantucket, Mass. The only road you can to use to get there is on the right :)
here are some natural beaches in Hawaii that I'd like to visit:
photos from the NOAA
Silver Strand near San Diego
Laguna Beach
Ocean Beach, San Francisco - in the fall
was on the beach in Discovery Park, Seattle yesterday. Not too shabby.
3 cliffs bay, South Wales
treekiller - seriously Brighton Beach?
perhaps only bearable when Mr Cook is on the shore line...

Where I grew up in Cape Ann, Mass:

I used to be the landscaper for the island in the background when I was younger, I wish my job still had that sort of view.
I just visited the beaches of St. Maarten & St. Barts. I recommend any of them.
I just got back from Puerto Rico--the beaches on Vieques are quite nice though many require a 4x4 to reach
