I'm always a big fan of the Outbanks. We used to get a timeshare at mile marker 9 in a little house named "Cloud 9." A decade ago it was just quiet enough, just cheesy enough to be really relaxing.
Come Labor Day weekend, the wife and I are meeting the fam in Destin. Hopefully, studio won't be doing anything that Friday because I won't be anywhere near.
that's amazing.. how to get to Destin, FL from California?! is New Orleans the nearest commerial airport i can fly to, then drive a couple hours down to Destin?!
i don't think we've those white powderly sands in California, in Southern California to be exact.. or someone can correct me?!
No white powdery sands in CA that I know of... just a different type of rock and wave combo that makes very different sand. Some of the beaches down south have slightly finer grained sand than the LA beaches though, and it gets finer and slightly whiter towards San Diego. But white like that? Nope, not in CA.
where did you live in destin? i grew up down in grayton a good chunk of the time, but schooled in fwb. i'd imagine you had to go through school there as well...
we moved there in 1970 and i left around 87. moved back to grayton in 93 to work, but left soon after.
for comparison, when i lived there, the end of destin (in a literal sense) was the green knight. there was nothing from there to panama city. when we moved there, holiday isle was pretty much blank except for a few houses...
anyone who says that the beaches in New York or Jersey are the best ... they are lieing to themslves
-born and raised on Long island which has the best beaches in the North East...but they still suck - 30' of sand left and no dunes - waves are tinny - wtf
-i would say that Panama city FL. is aight
-Southbeach FL.
-venice beach CA.
- Lido - Venice Italy was cool - lots of naked women +++++
- o BTW i dare someone to goto Cherry Grove - Fire Island, New York
-i would say the best beaches in the world would have to be near the equator - if ya cant use a beach all year round ...whats the point of it being a beach???
Britain's best beach is of course in Wales!
20 February 2007
Oxwich Bay in South Wales has been named as Britain's most beautiful beach by experts from the Travel Magazine.
Hundreds of beaches across the nation were visited, judged and scored by the team, with Oxwich coming out on top for its fantastic sand and beautiful location.
The beach also ranked highly compared to other international beaches in exotic locations such as the Caribbean, Mexico and India.
'We went looking for beaches that had a refined quality,' said Nic Havers, deputy editor of the Travel Magazine.
'We wanted to include beaches not just with natural beauty, good sand and sea quality, but also eco-friendly beaches with a "just-this-minute-discovered" feel.'
Mr Havers went on to praise Oxwich for its 'Arcadian quality' and its tendency to remain 'secluded' and 'quiet' even on hot days.
'The beach is overlooked by Penrice Castle and surrounded by extensive dune lands and wooded areas, which are great for children and adults alike to explore,' added Mr Havers. 'The beach is also a popular spot for swimming, sailing and windsurfing.'
haha AP, I love brighton, I was there this past weekend after the mermaid parade. there are some amazing restaurants there as well where you can go banquet style, eat 30 pounds of gnarley meat bi-products, drink unlimited warm vodka, and dance like an ass with a bunch of old Russians. Some of the most fun I've has since living in nyc.
Well,
I have fond childhood memories of Coney Island during the summer when my family use to live in Brooklyn. Although now i suspect with the recent redevelopment plans that i might be less enthusiastic about it.
As far as beaches that are amazing that i have been to recently.
St. George Island State Park near Appalachicola on the Florida Panhandle.
Althought St. George Island is heavily developed the park takes up the last 4-6 miles of the island and is very secluded/pristine.
Beautiful white sand and few beachgoers.
phu - this pic was taken last Saturday (we forewent the mermaid parade...went last year...opted to go to Brighton aka Russia-ville aka Little Odessa to watch the Russians defeat the Dutch in the Euro Cup Quarterfinals).
i won't say Brighton is a "best beach," but it certainly is a unique place. i checked out the main strip, off the beach, and was lovin how little English was being spoken, and how packed the sidewalk was with locals shopping for meat and produce, probably for that evening's dinner.
to keep the tangent going... it really is a unique place, definitely a very proud community that supports itself and works hard to maintain it's integrity. It amazes me that it's still part of Brooklyn.
It must have been quite the scene after the game, that was a good call heading down there for it. As a side note/plug, the gf did a photo essay on brighton this past winter, documenting the aging community and how it functions in the cold months as opposed to how people normally see it in the summer.
The two best lounging beaches I went to were somewhere in Cozumel and on Jamaica. I don't remember their names but they rocked
Favorite Beach to Boogie Board - Flemming Beach, Maui
Favorite Morning Walk Beach - Kaanapali Beach, Maui
South Beach FL - fun for people watching
I also liked Napili Beach on Maui and a lot of the beaches in NorCal have awesome rocks to climb. I'd just reccomend double checking high tide times as it would suck to get stuck.
Have never been to Tahiti but I've heard that Tahiti is a heaven for its beautiful beach! So if life is a beach, I would choose Tahiti to make it a heaven :D

I have to agree with A Center for Ants?, St George Island (at least pre Deepwell Horizon spill, was the best beach I had ever visited in the United States. Nothing like Old Florida Panhandle..., and half the island was a state park so although the other half was fairly developed (again this is pre-housing bust) with condos et al, the other half was sparse, scenic and wonderfully secluded.
Best beaches
Probably not! I probably shouldn't have swum next to the dog beach, either. Hmm.
I'm always a big fan of the Outbanks. We used to get a timeshare at mile marker 9 in a little house named "Cloud 9." A decade ago it was just quiet enough, just cheesy enough to be really relaxing.

DUCK, NC
Casa Del Campo, Domincan Republic.
Expensive, but great. Waiters to bring you drinks and when it is hot, they bring you chilled towels.
Catania, Sicily
One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.

Where are the waves?
South Piha still rocks the party (nice one agfa) but then I'm biased.
I would put LA beaches as some of the most disgusting places I've been. They are facinating in a social/urban way, but for a beach? Just nasty.
Best beach I've been to would be Italy and Florida, probably some small areas in Pt. St. Lucie
Cape Lookout during any storm swell... The rights are steep and fast and the lefts peel out for ever.
*bump*
it's beach season!!!!!
Brighton Beach, Brooklyn

I wanna check our rockaway beach this weekend.
As far as my favorite beaches:
Lawar cove and surrounding, Sumbawa, Indonesia
Laughing Bird Caye, Belize

basically any of these three. Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi.
Bronte is my local, great spot. Tama is quiet but a tricky wave with the rocks and Bondi is nuts but beautiful
