Where are the LA music fans????? Are you out there? Are you going?

I'm thinking about going to the summer sonic festival in Osaka on Aug 13. TOOL and Andrew WK and a bunch of other stuff. 13500 yen though! DIZZAM! Ozzfest was only $45 when I went.

I'll be there both days. This is going to be my 5th one. Always an amazing event.

I would go just to see the white rose movement.

the best part is driving all the way out there and realizing that it took you the same amount of time to get there from LA as it did to just park your stupid car.

2nd best would be the beer concentration camp, which is located 2 days walk from the bathrooms. That and Madonna headlining the dance tent.

I reach one of two conclusions: RATM, Tool, At the Drive-In, Madonna...either this is an old fart's festival, or the state of music these days is so bad, so flooded with one-hit Clear Channel nothings (AFI anyone? OK GO anyone?) and sap crap emo (The new goth: "106.7, this is KROQ! That was the new lullaby from the Austin emo band, 'My Other Car is a Broken Heart'..."), that truly good music is what "used to be."

Looking into making a pilgrimage back to CA to go to the show - any suggestions for hotels in LA and palm springs??? (seems that palm springs is already booked solid)

Just cause I lived in LA doesn't mean I know the fun quirky places to stay that don't cost an arm and a leg and are overrun with tourists...

treekiller, I'd stay in a cheap motel outside of Palm Springs. Maybe go west into the Inland Empire.

gar- everything is booked within 50 miles of the polo fields or requires a 3 day minimum stay. So we're thinking about a super 8 in banning for friday night. we've decided that one day of getting sun burned is enough and that we'd rather get our fill of LA LA land. So we're booking the other nights at the munkin land hotel in culver city.

Any LA archinects not heading to the desert for all three days interested in a round of drinks or brunch on sunday?

Ah yes the Munchkin hotel. I stayed there once. Nice place. My mom and sister weren't as impressed, but I think they were expecting luxury and not the sweet sweet old ass building with questionable elevator. And thanks to gentrificatin, the area around the hotel is nice. The new wine bar across the street is pretty cool. Also across the street be sure to check out Gregg Fleishman's stuff.

I'll get back to you on drinks and/or brunch, but I am definitely interested.

I'll probably be going to coachella - should be fun. Need to buy my tickets.

got tix to friday, the wife wanted to see bjork more then I want to see arcade fire (sigh)... fly into LAX on wednesday night and we're staying at the munchin hotel till tuesday. LA here I come!!!!

So we're gonna drive (just like if we lived in la) out and back for one day of music. the rest of the trip, just hoping to chill and see friends around the city of angles. I'll be wearing my architecture sucks shirt at coachella so please say 'hi'

since I'm not a cute as namby or wK, i don't need/want a full fledged archinect meetup or the garwondler's trunk brought out on my behalf.

i'll be there for three days...i'll be on the lookout for that "architecture sucks" tee.

damn, the greek theater is amazing!...i saw Muse play there last year and was mesmerized by the surrounding trees...

i expected some extra shows in l.a. while some of the bands are in the area...like in 2004, Muse played an under the radar extra show at the Mayan aftr coachella...i'm a fan...saw them play twice during that week.

i have to admit, i was not a huge muse fan (they kind of sound like radiohead-lite to me), but after seeing them perform live... wow! they put on a great show! amazing guitar!!!

so far, for me, saturday is a big conflict! arcade fire/ghostface killah/ozomatli all on near the same time! how is one to choose!?

dude, that's who i'm leaning to. i got tickets for one of their shows @ the greek next month, so if i miss them i'll still get to see them. however, af has been one of my favorite bands of the last few years, so i cannot miss them!
