I'm thinking about going to the summer sonic festival in Osaka on Aug 13. TOOL and Andrew WK and a bunch of other stuff. 13500 yen though! DIZZAM! Ozzfest was only $45 when I went.
the best part is driving all the way out there and realizing that it took you the same amount of time to get there from LA as it did to just park your stupid car.
someone got a link to something that actually has the lineup posted? Coachella site doesn't have it.
"Is that Freedom Rock? Turn it up, Man!"
I reach one of two conclusions: RATM, Tool, At the Drive-In, Madonna...either this is an old fart's festival, or the state of music these days is so bad, so flooded with one-hit Clear Channel nothings (AFI anyone? OK GO anyone?) and sap crap emo (The new goth: "106.7, this is KROQ! That was the new lullaby from the Austin emo band, 'My Other Car is a Broken Heart'..."), that truly good music is what "used to be."
"... truly good music is what used to be": I sound like my high school biology teacher raving about Genesis and Banana Blender Surprise.
Damnson, i sung in a band that was a RATM/Korn ripoff ten years ago. We should get together like two old farts, jam out and try to relive the good old days.
rage is headlining one day, red hot chili peppers and bjork to headline the other two days. here's the rest of the preliminary lineup, subject to changes and additions:
Tiesto, the Arcade Fire, Interpol, Manu Chao, Willie Nelson, Air, Happy Mondays, Decemberists, Faithless, Gotan Project, the Good, the Bad and the Queen, Paul Van Dyk, Arctic Monkeys, Roots, Jarvis Cocker, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Placebo, Satellite Party, Stephen Marley feat Jr. Gong, Kings of Leon, DJ Shadow, Kaiser Chiefs, Kokono No. 1, LCD Soundsystem, Nickel Creek, Travis, Damien Rice, Black Keys, Blonde Redhead, Infected Mushroom, New Pornographers, Peeping Tom, Placebo, Rufus Wainwright, the Rapture, Explosions in the Sky, Richie Hawtin, !!!, Benny Benassy, Felix Da Housecat, Hot Chip, Jacks Mannequin, Julieta Venegas, Lily Allen, Lupe Fiasco, Ozomatli, Peaches, Ghostface Killah, Jose Gonzales, Amos Lee, Brazilian Girls, Fountains of Wayne, Regina Spektor, VNV Nation, Coco Rosie, Cornelius, Gillian Welch, Junior Boys, Pharaohe Monche, Roky Erickson and the Explosives, Soulwax, Sparklehorse, the Kooks, Tilly and the Wall, Andrew Bird, Peter, Bjorn & John, the Frames, Gogol Bordello, Comedians of Comedy, Justice, MSTRKRFT, We Are Scientists, Yeva, Grizzly Bear, Amy Winehouse, Avett Brothers, Circa Survive, the Coup, the Cribs, CSS, Digitalism, Erol Alkan, Evil Nine, Girl Talk, Klaxons, the Noisettes, Spank Rock, Tapes 'n Tapes, Fields, Tokyo Police Club, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, DJ Heather, the Feeling, Fratellis, Mike Relm, Silversun Pickups, Busdriver, Brother Ali, Nightwatchman, Bojones, Mika, Pop Levi, Anathallo and Fair to Midland.
so many freaking new new wave british bands on the line up...is anyone actually listening to them or are you guys into them just for the tight trousers?
I'd like to go, but it's too far away damnit.?*&à=)"r"'t
I'd like to see jesus and mary chain again, like back in the days...
wait a minute how old are they now?
Looking into making a pilgrimage back to CA to go to the show - any suggestions for hotels in LA and palm springs??? (seems that palm springs is already booked solid)
Just cause I lived in LA doesn't mean I know the fun quirky places to stay that don't cost an arm and a leg and are overrun with tourists...
gar- everything is booked within 50 miles of the polo fields or requires a 3 day minimum stay. So we're thinking about a super 8 in banning for friday night. we've decided that one day of getting sun burned is enough and that we'd rather get our fill of LA LA land. So we're booking the other nights at the munkin land hotel in culver city.
Any LA archinects not heading to the desert for all three days interested in a round of drinks or brunch on sunday?
Ah yes the Munchkin hotel. I stayed there once. Nice place. My mom and sister weren't as impressed, but I think they were expecting luxury and not the sweet sweet old ass building with questionable elevator. And thanks to gentrificatin, the area around the hotel is nice. The new wine bar across the street is pretty cool. Also across the street be sure to check out Gregg Fleishman's stuff.
I'll get back to you on drinks and/or brunch, but I am definitely interested.
got tix to friday, the wife wanted to see bjork more then I want to see arcade fire (sigh)... fly into LAX on wednesday night and we're staying at the munchin hotel till tuesday. LA here I come!!!!
So we're gonna drive (just like if we lived in la) out and back for one day of music. the rest of the trip, just hoping to chill and see friends around the city of angles. I'll be wearing my architecture sucks shirt at coachella so please say 'hi'
since I'm not a cute as namby or wK, i don't need/want a full fledged archinect meetup or the garwondler's trunk brought out on my behalf.
damn, the greek theater is amazing!...i saw Muse play there last year and was mesmerized by the surrounding trees...
i expected some extra shows in l.a. while some of the bands are in the area...like in 2004, Muse played an under the radar extra show at the Mayan aftr coachella...i'm a fan...saw them play twice during that week.
i have to admit, i was not a huge muse fan (they kind of sound like radiohead-lite to me), but after seeing them perform live... wow! they put on a great show! amazing guitar!!!
dude, that's who i'm leaning to. i got tickets for one of their shows @ the greek next month, so if i miss them i'll still get to see them. however, af has been one of my favorite bands of the last few years, so i cannot miss them!
but ghostface killah and ozomatli... damn!
i feel like a starving man looking over a buffet menu!
Coachella!
need i say more?
I'll be their for the saturday lineup... too much music, too much sun, too much fun!
anybody else going?
just bought a ticket for Sunday! (pretty much only going for Tool)
Archinectors-
Where are the LA music fans????? Are you out there? Are you going?
I'm thinking about going to the summer sonic festival in Osaka on Aug 13. TOOL and Andrew WK and a bunch of other stuff. 13500 yen though! DIZZAM! Ozzfest was only $45 when I went.
I'll be there both days. This is going to be my 5th one. Always an amazing event.
I would go just to see the white rose movement.
the best part is driving all the way out there and realizing that it took you the same amount of time to get there from LA as it did to just park your stupid car.
2nd best would be the beer concentration camp, which is located 2 days walk from the bathrooms. That and Madonna headlining the dance tent.
bring an umbrella
ratm to headline day 3 this year!!!
oh shit, rage is making a comeback!...i was in a band ten years ago that was a rage/korn rip off...
the 90's is approaching...
archinect meet up at the ratm show?
thinking 'bout flying back to the southland for a few days of r & r in the desert and by the beach...
how do you know?
someone got a link to something that actually has the lineup posted? Coachella site doesn't have it.

Ugh. But if the RATM rumors are true, I'm there.
I'm holding out for Homo A Go Go in July.
never been....what's it like?
Anybody have crazy stories from it?
here is a link from the l.a. times. oh man... i can't wait!
mosh pit!!!
Marlin...find a garage and you can rap and scream while i rock out on the bass...\m/

I'd want to go on Friday if Bjork doesn't play anywhere else in LA besides Coachella
let's see if this works...
grrrrr, can't seem to remember how to reduce the width to 400 px. if anyone out there can do it, go ahead!
Holy shit its true - RATM is reuniting!
That made my day.
dude, it's made my year! shit, decade!!!
willie nelson & richie hawtin on the same day as rage... nice.
If I had to pick only one day (which I probably will) I'd rather go to day 2. I just hope Hot Chip doesn't try anything funny like break my legs.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
original lineup?
how much is a ticket to lax?
so many freaking new new wave british bands on the line up...is anyone actually listening to them or are you guys into them just for the tight trousers?

HELP!!!!!!!
I don't see Sir Mix-A-Lot on the list.
treekiller, I'd stay in a cheap motel outside of Palm Springs. Maybe go west into the Inland Empire.
Or there is also camping at the event.
Sir Mix-A-Lot will be attending incognito.

never seen arcade fire live before...yeah, i want to hear regine's voice live...
i want bjork to perform hunter...if she does that then every other song is just bonus...
if anybody out there needs a single ticket to friday, i've got one!

dude, i just saw muse last week @ the forum!!!
i have to admit, i was not a huge muse fan (they kind of sound like radiohead-lite to me), but after seeing them perform live... wow! they put on a great show! amazing guitar!!!
so far, for me, saturday is a big conflict! arcade fire/ghostface killah/ozomatli all on near the same time! how is one to choose!?
regine!
dude, that's who i'm leaning to. i got tickets for one of their shows @ the greek next month, so if i miss them i'll still get to see them. however, af has been one of my favorite bands of the last few years, so i cannot miss them!
