thanks but that doesn't work though, you can export 3d buildings from google earth into sketchup or any other 3d program. The plugin is only to import your building in google earth...
Chicago is going to be hard to find (unless you use OGLE, which looks pretty damned useful if you ask me). The SOM model the IIT students have doesn't have faces, it's literally a collection of polylines that define the edges of the building volumes. Not all that precise, either. But good enough to start from. Maybe just model over the top of it?

3d city models
does anyone have a 3d file of downtown chicago, any type of cad files, or aerial photos? any IITers out there? thanks

you can get the aerial photos from google earth, I believe, but you gotta pay
