does anyone have or can point out a decent source where i might be able to track down a dwg (or any other cad file) of cuba or more specifically havana....?

CUJAE (Centro Universitario Jose ANtonio Echevarria) is the main Arch. School in Havana.

I think there is another University of Arch in Santiago and Santa Clara.
The Ministerio de Construccion is where all the architecture in the island comes out of.
You best bet is to contact the Architectural Historian of Havana, he is the one disneyfying the malecon. Im sure he has the most advanced technologies in Havana.

My recommendation find yourself a good map, and trace it in CAD.
CUJAE can barely provide its students with basic drawing supplies, let alone computers. I seriously doubt such a thing exists, and if it did, there's no way it'd accurately represent actual conditions on the ground in areas outside the reconstruction going on in Havana Vieja. Use google earth.
It's called La Maqueta. It's an official planning model and kept up-to-date and doubles as a bit of a tourist trap. I think Mario Gonzales and friends started it right after the Revolution. It's all done by hand though, and I couldn't imagine developing a digital model from it.

i dont speak spanish, and it's been difficult locating information on havana... as well as making contact with the right authorities that might be able to help...
my project's (school project) is based in cuba and im going there in a couple of weeks -- ideally id like to speak to someone there about future planning strategies; especially when it comes to the Malecon and possible flood barriers (to avoid what happened in Oct when hurricane wilma decided to drift towards habana)...
again, im trying to overcome the language barrier and it seems the cubans don't take too kindly for people who dont bother to learn their language (ive heard they love giving gringos a hard time for this).
if anyone can provide any other info, that'd be great too...
I met (and talked for a while with) Segre, and he is an interesting guy and all, but I understood he was just a professor, and did only one half project while in Cuba. He is the authority when it comes to Cuban revolutionary architecture.

I do know Coyula was one of the architects involved with socialist/modernist design in Havana and Cuba. Had a big historical lecture/meeting with him whilst in Cuba. I just assumed the other two were of the same background.

Spiderdad ignore driftwood someone obvious skipped the lime juice in his mojito. There are digital maps of havana. I know cause i helped with it. There are rather sophisticated actually. The problem comes with getting it. Cuba being such a secure (I use that rather than paranoid) is very protective of the use of its literature of any kind.
However if you contact the Caribbean School of Architecture (english speaking located in jamaica - the do study tours there every other year) they should either have a copy or be able to direct you in the right direction. Speak to Bukola in the archives department if anyone can find it she can.

this model of havana exists. in this book ,maybe you can track it down. there some other maps and pictures in the book. call MAK Center.
