Favorite art magazines

Kai

I know arch and design mags have been discussed a lot, but what're your favorite art magazines?

All in English, all mainstream contemporary art:
Artforum (US)
Frieze (UK-centric)
Flash Art (Italy/EU-centric)
NYT Friday Reviews
ArtReview (NY/US/sometimes)
Art In America (US/on occasion)

BTW Kai, not to be a jerk, but i was appalled at your making up art projects for your admissions portfolio. there are lots of artist out there who work their 2 jobs (day+studio) and pay 2 rents (home+studio). if you're an artist, why not include real works? if i misunderstood, sorry, but making up fake content for your portfolio...questionable in my book.

anotherquestion-

You are correct, I did make up art work for my portfolio but I have a tremendous amount of respect for people working hard to make it as an artist. What I view as questionable though is not that I would make up art, but rather that an admissions board would spend such a brief amount of time on a portfolio and not try to understand each project but rather base their decissions on graphic design and whether a project APPEARS as if it has an interesting idea. If they aren't going to spend the time, why should I? I would include my real works, but many projects work much better in real life as opposed to flattened on a sheet of paper, so i chose to make things that look well in 2d instead of force my projects into such tight constrictions

Yes, Arkitip rocks. Also check Blueprint, Colors, Eye, Giant Robot, Graphic, Graphotism, Icon, Idea, IDN, Intersection, Lodown, Nest, Refill, Relax, Rojo, Tank, Tokion, Vapors, View On Colour, World Signs. I do manage to read most of these as they come out!

Used to like bits of Juxtapoz, but after reading the editorial in the Os Gemeos issue I'm losing all faith.

I'll second the vote for Frieze. Modart's good, out of France. Anybody checked Hold No Hostage? Amazing graphic design in a graffiti magazine.
