translucent ceilings

cynic

does anyone know of any good manufacturers of translucent ceiling systems? i already know of a few (USG, Armstrong, Barrisol) but if any of you have had good results from another company in the past, then please let me know.
this ceiling is going in a windowless art gallery, and is to be lit from above with fluorescents to give an even diffuse light.

One thing is for sure the Billo panels by USG are actually very, very nice for the price. But if you'd like something a bit more monolithic try http://www.e-panelite.com or http://www.3-form.com 4x4 or 4x8 in set to USG centricitee 9/16" face w/silver satin color. Also http://www.enveldesign.com/products.htm has a wide variety of luminous ceiling products. Please let me know if you need further help.

at the campus center at brandeis a firm i worked at used
a really simple overlapping frosted plexi ceiling...just pieces
of plexi layered and held up with threaded rod...it's cheap
and you can make some sort of pattern that may make the
space feel a bit less formal or at least a bit more interesting
than a grid..just a thought

jrocc,
this is not a skylight situation, it's a suspended ceiling under a field of fluorescent fixtures

lars,
unfortunately we don't have a lot of time or money to do material experiments......it's because of this that i was hoping to find a system that had already optimized light transmission and fixture placement, not to mention that despite the actual material costs, bids tend to be lower on systemized products and higher on custom details
but i have seen that ceiling you are referring to.....looks good!

i hear you that the custom product may be a bit
more expensive...if you need info about what was
used at brandeis i may be able to get some spec
info on what was sprayed and the like...as far as time
goes i think it may actually have a shorter lead time
than some companies..but i may be wrong.
