Cornell, Rice, just to name a few of the very selective architecture schools claim a small number applicants for their undergrad programs (graduate school too). But to what extent consists of their "selectivity"? Do they only accept superstars (those with incredibly high academic credentials and outstanding portfolios)? If your academic rankings are good but not in say, top 5% of your class, do you stand a much harder chance of getting in? Is commitment and focus an important factor in admissions? I'm very sure they only look for outstanding students (considering the numerous amount of applications each year), but to what extent do they consider 'outstanding'?

Any testimonies?
Thanks!
i would say that a letter from a former teacher/employer in related fields counts for something, and can offset a deficiency in grades or portfolio.
