I have 3 fountain pens. Black, red, turquoise ink. The black ink pen is in a custom wood body, the red is a safari Lamy (with much wear and tear) and the turquoise is this:

You deserve to be mocked incessantly about that last one. Just saying.

Why? It’s fantastic. But mine is a metric scale.

I imagine taking that out on the jobsite and getting made fun in some sort of "what are you going to measure with that?" type of comment only to retort that I'm sure they've never had the need for more than a 6" scale... and then play dumb to the crude reference, because of course we don't hit below the belt.

I don't carry fountain pens to site... these site on the desk. Sharpies get brought to site. The fatter the better.

The best pen is the one close at hand when you need one, it might even be a pencil...

I'm fussy about pens but tend to lose them so I'm not interested in expensive ones. I've found that these are a pleasure to write with on most paper surfaces: https://uniballco.com/products.... I use the Pentel skinny markers that midlander shared, in various colors, for some sketching tasks.

It's clearly not the 'best' pen, but it is my go-to.  The Pilot Precise rolling ball.  V7 fine, or GTFO. http://pilotpen.us/brands/prec...  And a black sharpie.

My nightstand is littered with them as I have a tendency to grab them off my desk and forget to put them back.  As a male walking out the door, we tend to do the quick 'pocket check' to make sure you've got wallet, phone, & keys.  For me, a decent pen is always on that list as well.

I collect fountain pens.  I have more than I’d like to admit.

There’s really no substitute for drawing or writing with good fountain pens.

For cheap pens, I love Sharpies, Pentel Sign Pens, and Pentel Rolling Writers.

Liquid Stylist made by Yasutomo is the best pen for both drawing and writing.

Only way to impress me with your pen is if it's a fountain pen, or a Cross pen.
