LPC VS. DOB code conflict.

chosunone

Hi All,

For those working in NYC LPC projects, how do you meet the ASTM E84 requirements for windows.  Wood windows don't fall in this category unless they have fire-retardant wood which I doubt most people specify for cost reason.   Is there an exception?

I usually specify aluminum and upvc windows for NON-LPC project, but they are not acceptable for Landmark Projects

Code section 806.5 says: Material, other than foam plastic used as interior trim, shall have a minimum Class C flame spread index as
described in Section 803.1.1 and maximum smoke-developed index
of 450, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84 or UL 723.
Combustible trim, excluding handrails and guardrails, shall not exceed 10 percent of the specific wall or ceiling area in which it is attached.

Definition of Trim in code:

TRIM: Picture molds, chair rails, baseboards, handrails, door and window frames and similar decorative or protective materials used in fixed applications.

Thank you
