Hi all,

Where in the architecture world will I make the most money with the least amount of work? Please advise.

Third-party owner's representative? The ones I've worked with have done jack, and probably got paid better.

Oh that's easy. It's a secret.

Only the ivy league schools teach it during the last semester of an m.arch. Once you know the secret the staggering student loan debt all makes sense! :)

Wonder what that could be. Could you provide any clue sir? My guess is become an architecture professor at said ivy league schools and keep an eye out for the kick back check for bringing the students in from the student loan providers. Am I warm?

This is so from left field. Do you mean what you mean or is it a phrase for saying something else? Please advise. I'm so curious about your logical way of thinking.

Open a cannabis retail business. Then, invest in your own projects after raking in millions. There are many states that still haven't legalized so plenty of opportunity out there.

1. Start with a trust fund

2. Be a mediocre student at a prestigious school

3. Endless self-promotion

Just to be clear, you need ALL of the above to be wealthy in architecture.

be a developer like john portman was. thing is, multi-family housing many be the only developer-oriented building type left standing after all this. adaptive re-use will likely come into the fold in this decade.

Word. Developer builder is the only path to financial autonomy. Downside is you better have a sharp business sense, start-up capital, knowledge of everything that goes into the development business that one doesn't cover in architecture, and the willingness to focus pretty much just on multifamily.

You mean the infamous, "I know what you did last summer with So&so and So&so's mom? Now pay up before I send the pictures to your boss" seeking?

I’ve thought about whoring myself to lonely clients...design can be a front.

Co-worker and I are thinking of starting up a consulting business where we get clients to pay their bills to architect. The overhead would be low, we already have the baseball bats.

avoid "concept design" (everyone can do it and no one cares)

It could pave the way to a fairly welcoming academic career if faculty and friends like your work enough that you're hired and paid by international tuition.

Jun 2, 20 9:00 am  ·

Yes and no AS. Everyone can do conceptual design. Few are good at it and are able to produce a conceptual design that is able to be turned into a real building that meet the clients needs. If you're in the former you'll have no issue getting hired at a medium to large firm.

True but some find sanctuary from construction within academia. No clients to worry about, just students to entertain.

Jun 2, 20 10:08 am  ·

I'll rephrase my snarky statement - Everyone thinks they can do "concept design" and therefore competition is intense - too much supply and not enough demand. So either you marry rich or teach or live the life of a starving artists until something breaks.
