Does anyone know of any good public art firms (as in studios of more than one person) that focus on placemaking, site specific works, etc? Im looking specifically for artists not architects or LAs...
artists usually aren't collective studios - they are almost always named after the person that founded the practice.
People that come to mind: richard serra, any of the land artists: michael heizer, smithson, judd, christo, olaf eliasson, ugo rondinone, andy goldsworthy, calder, picasso...alive or dead? type/period of work? so many options here..
chigurh, Im looking for new studios that design site specific works that possibly incorporate more of an urban design/planning approach than the typical artist does. Possibly a tactical approach that uses art to solve a larger strategic urban design agenda...
They have done a number of projects adding art to infrastructure, like vehicle / pedestrian bridges, things that are normally pretty atrocious. An architecture firm, but they team with artists to deliver these projects. May be helpful to look up the artists they team with. These projects may be weighted to heavily on the infrastructure side for what you want though.

This is actually the type of things Im looking for. Infrastructure, public space, etc...strategically located art...Much public art seems plopped down wherever. Im looking for studios that put attention/planning into choosing sites for the work.
Public art firms.

So...an urban intervention?
not art.
Why not?
Art that is strategically located. Art+urban planning.

first time I hear the term "Public art firms."
I thought exhibitions or installations are inherently part of an architecture practice.
The list could be very long but here's a few:
Office for Political Innovation
Thomas Heatherwick
Izaskun Chinchilla
Ishigami
Elii
Philippe Rahm
Basurama
Great list so far. Nad Kahn is a good one. I forgot about him...
