It'll be interesting if it passes.  http://bit.ly/2iTLabJ  I think my job is secure... but who knows?

As I read the measure, projects are not impacted that don't seek zoning variances for increased height and/or density, or don't need a general plan amendment.  Of course, most bigger projects seek these exceptions and would thus not be entitled.  (Lage projects currently underway could be completed, and large 100% affordable projects are exempted.)

It's complex, because baseline zoning here is seventy years old and outdated in many cases.  Also, the whole issue began as a battle over a single project in Hollywood: a wealthy neighbor opposed it, didn't get far in blocking it, then created/funded a movement which has become the ballot measure.  The Hollywood developer, meanwhile, is the prime backer for organized opposition to the measure.  But, of course, the measure would apply city-wide, to all 469 square miles.  (You just wanna say, "Kids!  Can you settle this outside?")

Most local politics, at least here, is about development.

what i'm not sure of, is that how this conflicts with the affordable housing act that passed in november?  does this halt all those possible projects? my other question is, does this mean, the target project in hollywood for example could not get built?

isn't there enough control over development?  there are the specific plans for so many neighborhoods that are little dictatorships.

what also bugs me is that this whole thing started with the director of the AHF.  I think people are going to vote Yes based on a mentality of "if the AHF is for it it must be good!"  they also have spent a ton of money pushing for the Yes vote.

A master plan that is "reviewed" every five years isn't a plan at all.  A plan should imply some permanence and predictability.  Developers will be forced to continue making "contributions" to the politicos so that the next "review" won't be even more injurious.

Everybody wants walkability without density, low cost without diminution of quality (aesthetic or other), stability without stagnation.  Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.

Good news Measure S was defeated!

the jerk Michael Weinstein who spent millions from the The AIDS Healthcare Foundation will lose his pristine view out of his office window. I hope this jerk loses his job or this sham of a charity is shut down and a legit AIDS charity that spends money on AIDS research treatment and prevention and not on some NIMBY shit can replace the foundation. Do not send them any money until they fire him and they have a new board of directors.
