at 14 I was shown slides of a recently completed columbia (I think) grads thesis. Was blown away by the images... I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

because I grew up in serious suburbia, and it either kills you or motivates you to change the way cities form/feel/look.

Every since I can remember, I could "see" great photographs. I would always make a “click” sound with my mouth to simulate the shot. I eventually figured that these “scenes” were interesting because they contained the right combination of “proportion” and “contrast” relative to my position. I decided that I wanted to “build” these shots. I still design with this in mind.

Because I actually am great at math. And can draw. And because I was the only girl in shop class in middle school.
And, I did my undergrad in Architecture, and was-brainwashed-into-believing/had-my-eyes-opened-by/found-something-I-loved-in what I was studying.
Three years after graduating, I'm still much better at math, and miss calculus.
But I can't go back to a structural engineering view of the world.
Damn you, architecture. I love you.
