apartment building outside police jurisdiction

enzee

I believe that this occured in Hong Kong. I read something about a building in the city that for some strange loophole in the government this building falls under no country or city and has no laws to govern it.
It has completely slipped my mind where I found out about this and I have been searching the internet and can't come up with anything.

If anyone knows aynthing about this I would love to hear it.
Thanks

MVRDV write about this in FARMAX, they refer to it as the Kowloon Walled City. For a long time it was between the jusidictions of the mainland Chinesse and Hong Kong governments. I think it was demolished in the early nineties (has been a while since i read about it).

Yes there is a fantastic photography/ architecture book all about it
called
City of Darkness: Life in Kowloon Walled City
Ian Lambot (Editor), Greg Girard (Illustrator)
it seems a little expensive on amazon, but it is well worth getting your hands on- its one of my favourite books.
There are still similar-ish places in HK, like chungking mansions/
mirador mansions, but i dont think anything quite compares to it.
