I've resubscribed and I think it's improved mightily in the last couple issues. Maybe I'm biased since I'm a BLDGBLOG fan, but I think the hiring of Geoff is indicative of a promising trend in the magazine toward better content. And his articles and interviews were quite good in this last issue.
i read geoff's articles in the new (march) issue. his interview with adjaye is good - but way too short. anyway, gave me something with which to comment on the african architecture thread...
Place of honor meaning the john, right FOG? That's where mine live - along with my Architect magazine, the current issue of which has a severely grumpy-looking Patrick Tighe on the cover that freaks me out a little in the bathroom.
What is the deal with the architect headshots on the magazine covers these days? I don't care what the designer looks like, just the DESIGN. It would seems like Architect magazine has given in to the cult of personality.
Also, If I see one more picture of Jennifer Siegel....
i understand the initial reaction to the headshots on 'architect', foglite. but, as they continue to develop it, i've appreciated the direction 'architect' is trying to take: get away from the archi-porn shots of buildings and get into what doing architecture is about.
the headshots are annoying, but i think they're the mag's way of trying to drive home that their point-of-view is different from the others.
You know it Cameron, them apatong shipping container floors really do it for me. (You had to take it there Cameron? Can't I just hate on Seigel for her overexposure?)
I agree Steven, the quality of Architect has been getting better as well, but the headshot covers still bug me. I'm with LB on this, in their place of honor, when I see various serious/grumpy architects staring at me I get a little freaked. Metropolis is guilty of this as well, the Thom Mayne cover awhile back was so bad I had be certain to keep in turned over till I had finished the issue.
Dwell Magazine: A Slow Commercialised Descent? Has it stoped being a "Nice Modernist?"
dude, you don't even get a free subscription for being a nice modernist!
I usually end up picking a copy up at some vodka/gin induced archi-event.
C
C....they actually used to send them to me for free.....when they were a startup magazine...i kid you not.

Agreed Steven, in general the articles in Dwell tend to be short, but that is why it receives it's place of honor in our house.

Patrick went the way of recycling on Monday...I hate pain in the ass architects.
I'll take commercialzed modernism over commercialized post-modern shit buildings any day. Something's getting built either way

i've subsrcibed to DWELL, and I enjoy. Some months more than others.
