I got to see his pavilion for the ara pacis in rome- very beautiful & peaceful even tho its next to a busy road, you don't even notice... he did disturbingly ignore two beautiful baroque buildings that he could very easily have accommodated... didn't make it to the jubilee church tho
lol- i think you prob would get electrocuted - I actually have one step up from that but sometimes it seems that way!
Wow...I bet that was quite an experience-I've seen photographs and video of both structures and they are breathtaking, especially the Jubilee Church.
However, when I look at the pictures of the Ara Pacis and the neighbouring buildings, it is a visual shock-In the midst of all the warm browns, reds and earth tones, there is this glaring white box!
I just can't get past how in-your-face that thing is-I love it, but I can sorta understand why folks over there weren't pleased with the design.
Unfortunately, there were many people who disliked him just because he was a foreigner and Jewish, but I think most of it was because of the building's design.
Man, I would hate to design a building and have people protesting it in the streets, burning a model of my building and telling me I must be stopped!
Oh well-you can't please everybody all the time-someone always wants to start some drama, and the advice I have for Richard is...
...shake those haters off, baby, and keep on doing your thing....:)
Anyway, this question is for those folks who work for RM or know someone who does-
He is supposed to be releasing two books later this year, one a book about Grotta House (My fave!) and the other, a ne book of his houses and apartments. Does anybody know if he is holding an event for either book, and if so, when? I'm planning on going back to NYC later this year and need to make arrangements in advance-
(My apologies for my spelling...my W is sticking!)
Yeah I know you're thinking "aaaa, another 870 RM post", but please humour me-I promise, my next posting ill be about something else...
You might want to check with the publishers of his books...I would start with the most recent publisher.....they might give you heads up as to when his book will be out......then you can contact his office and ask if he is anticipating any book signings.... Heck It might work out to be a good investment in time....who knows ten years from now with a first edition book by a well know architect it might land you a few bucks in the bank....that is if you don't drool on the pages....while looking at it.
Well, I did contact RM's assistant and she told me she'd keep me posted on when the next event would be-however, she is a very busy person and I don't want to bug her about him constantly. I know Rizzoli is publishing these two books, just as they did the one last year, but they don't have any info on these books up on their website as of yet...because they're not finished! (They are due out by September)
I have an autographed copy of a small paperback book of his work I bought last year-I received a copy or Richard Meier Houses for Christmas right after I went to NYC, and I would like to have it autographed this year.
There will be no drooling on any of the books...I guard them with my life! I would keep them in plastic baggies if I could find some that are large enough.

ya, that's a little extreme. It's a lovely little structure - people really need to chill out.
