I'm looking for modern short pedestrian bridge examples. i'm working on a design for a sunken park and the two types of bridges are one that spans a narrow canal and another that spans the width of the park which is 60m - both are footbridges. To update my bridge references and get the juices flowing.
there was a group of architects and engineers that were sent to build infrastructure for the u.s. military in vietnam i believe. they designed short span bridges in the jungles. i forget the name of theyre group but you should do some research on them. talk about some architects that were real troopers.
thanks!
@barry: i knew this bridge, his other glass bridge is kinda neat too. Thanks!
dfowler:neat - but increasingly becoming a genre, don't you think?
@mdler: how does knowing that help us at all?
West 8's ped bridge at Borneo/sporienburg (Amsterdam)
Can't remember the name, but that cool twisted Bldg-to-Bldg pedway in UK for a dance company. Was it Marks/Barfield?
Here is West8's Bridge @Borneo & Sporenburg starts at slide 85 and goes to 92. The whole slideshow is of my Netherlands trip in June04. There are about 6 pedestrian bridges I count in the entire slideshow.
-slide 2 - canal bridge
-slide 9&10 - Museum Park Bridge - Rem Koolhas
-slide 13 - Kunsthal Bridge - sort of a bridge
-slide 61 - weird bridge
-slide 81 bridge to somewheres
-slide 85-92 - Borneo & Sporenburg
-slide 106 - Borneo & Sporenburg birds eye view - not my image.
Also this guy in Berkeley is a pedestrian Bridge designer
- I think mightylittle™ used to work for him. He has a couple more - I cant find his website atm though.

thanks all...
speaking of west 8 - look at these
http://www.west8.nl/projects/gardens/garden_of_10000_bridges/
given their style and the landscape projects they do west 8 has a lot of deck / footbridge designs in their portfolio
i though it was a bit ridiculous when i first saw it, but its kind of grows on you, would be cool as a chinese roller coaster perhaps.
the footbridge in millenium park by gehry - i think one its one of his better projects

we should have more threads on specific elements like this one, lets keep it going.
