The idea of the project is to create a continuous folding roof for the snow in the winter and the sun in the summer. The folding roof covers and organizes the life and the activity in the building. The particular shape of the roof is thought in order to guarantee a variety of space inside the building and its continuity preserves and reinforces the integrity  of the block in the urban fabric. The building is shaped as a rectangle 176 meters long and 42 wide and is placed longitudinally and on a side of the predefined area, a public plaza occupies part of the block. The organization of the spaces is simple and follows the linear shape of the building: the apartments are disposed on a double linear sequence facing outside and inside on partly open-air courts: the interior courts are provided with stairs and elevators. The apartments are “loft” conceived, organized on 4 floor and big window are thought facing the street: two main typologies are proposed with different particular solutions: small units with a residential area of 72 square meters and medium units with an area of 108 squares meters. Separated but possibly integrated areas are provided for the children day care and the elderly people: the interior courts are thought as public and common spaces: an area on the ground floor is destined to the retail with stores facing both on the street and on the courts.  Part of the ground floor is destined to the car parking. The roof is conceived as public space is reachable independently from different point of the building. Particular areas of the roof are destined to the children and the elderly people. The public plaza is a simple empty open space and it is conceived as a wooden surface. The folding roof is covered in aluminum in order to shine on the summer and to protect on the winter: the particular shape of the roof is suitable to be covered with the snow proposing a pleasant scenario. We want to propose a relatively simple building in order to contain the cost of construction and possibly take care of the particular different situations an the details. We want at the same time propose a strong and recognizable project to give energy to the block and the surrounding area and, through its variety, propose spaces suitable for the everyday life.
