The tower is located next to the massive transport system, Transmilenio. Its nearness to the the eje ambiental, where pedestrians give life to this busy sector, precursor in the urban renovation of this sector, works as a prelude to the historical center of the city. It makes La Torre Bicentenario an ambitious project that pretends to renovate the face of the historical center of this city with an avant-garde form of architecture that will make of this building a point of reference for the city.
Many architectural designs from the avenida Jiménez are taken into consideration at the time of elaborating the idea behind this Tower. Magnificent buildings that are milestones of the city such as: the Hotel Continental, the old Gobernación de Cundinamarca, the Camacho Building, among others. Designed and built in different times in the city’s history, they talk about our architectural patrimony. Some features in terms of its overwhelming simplicity and aesthetics are synthesized in a strong, geometric composition of a sober and rational order or disposition of volumes to generate a minimal sequence of four units or containers height, joined together by a large central core, through which one access the different uses, giving the city a stark and stunning image which reflects an intension of art and modernity in their lineage.
A large double-height lobby gives access independently to each of the 4 applications through 8 lifts. Simultaneously, a terrace serves as a lobby fronting the Small Square Park of Journalists (Parque de los periodistas), which works as an extension of space public into the building. The first plant has additionally an interior courtyard that allows the trade to have an area of outdoor extension amid vegetation and water forming an atmosphere of privacy and a public remained very necessary and enriching to the area. The first floor has the commercial area, a shopping plaza on the second floor and a new gym in the third. These applications have a unique fixed point that serves the basement to the gym, and its objective is to separate public and private flows. On the fourth floor, a private bar-lobby of the Hotel welcomes the guests, accompanied by terraces, social areas for meetings in a 53 suites hotel, which the hotel’s program up to the middle of the seventh floor. A break in the middle of the volume of the main façade to the park shows a change of use within the tower. 33 offices in different areas and two separate elevators occupy the building up to the eleventh floor; additionally, the façade advances to the outside and it merges with the set of shadows and depth in the framed volume. Subsequently, nearly topping the tower from the twelfth to the sixteenth floor, there are 40 apartments with one and two bedrooms open on a preferential basis, some on the hills, others facing La Candelaria, and all enjoying this unique panorama of the city. Finally, a double height balcony restaurant and two outdoor garden terraces topped the tower and allow public access to enjoy the privileged view of the hills of the city. Forming a multiuse Tower, we are aware of the commitment of urban renewal to the center of the capital and the architectural importance and responsibility that we deserve from the Avenida Jiménez, as well as the historical and current construction of the architecture memory of our country.
