Humboldt Lofts

The project is the last piece to be built on a National Historic Site.  Originally the Gold Medal flour milling center, the site remains industrial in material and scale.  The Humboldt Lofts fully restores the five-story 1870s masonry Humboldt Mill and adds a new nine-story building annex containing 37 condominiums, parking and retail space.

The constant dialogue between the designed and undesigned is prevalent in the milling district. The building explores this in the exposed simple concrete loft structure and refined weathered steel, brick and glass skin. Located at the edge of downtown along the Mississippi river, floor to ceiling glass heightens the experience of the city and reveals the vibrant activity at street level and the dynamic lifestyles of residents above.
