The Flat Bench Library

The existing library consists of a large information desk and a bookshelf. It was a more concentrated space for storing books than for users to stay. First of all, the size and arrangement of the information desk were adjusted to secure a reading space and allow various types of reading activities to take place. The information desk in the middle of the library was moved to the wall near the entrance so that loans and returns can be made conveniently. The bookshelf, which was located in the middle of the library and felt like a big wall, was located on the wall of the library so that the space in the middle of the library could be used. The central space was made to become an open space by securing an open gaze without high furniture or structures. Long and small tables were arranged to enable discussions by size or group activities. A bench and a low bookshelf were placed together around the pillar in the middle of the library, and a design was made using the geometry of a circle and a square. It has created a space where you can read books in various ways, sitting together in various ways, or several children sitting head-to-head or concentrating on long desks. On the front of the library, I took off my shoes and went up so that I could read books comfortably on the large floor. It sometimes becomes a stage space. A net playground was also created at one end of the floor so that the library could be recognized as a more interesting space. Square frames of various sizes are installed in places on the bookshelves arranged along the wall. The large frame becomes a bench and provides a space for reading books in the bookshelf, and the slightly smaller frame also becomes a bookshelf that can store larger books than the books of the existing bookshelf. Located by the window, the largest square frame becomes a bar table, providing a quiet reading space alone. This square frame is applied to the four walls and net playground of the library to give an overall sense of unity. On the other hand, the lighting on the big table has a round shape, giving a point to a square space.By allowing various types of reading and activities to take place, students' utilization of the library was increased and it became a comfortable and convenient space.
