Fashion Street

BuckleyGrayYeoman’s approach at Fashion Street was one of preservation rather than restoration, setting out to create interaction between the old and the new. A new 30,000 sq ft office building has been created on site behind the existing Grade II listed section of the old Moorish Market. The two buildings have been separated by an internal street, which enlivens the space. The street is bridged at the upper levels by the two lift cores that have been separated from the main structure, ensuring interaction between old and new. The entire façade is wrapped in Corten louvres, creating a great sense of texture and materiality.

This building is occupied by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU London). Initially conceived and designed as a speculative office building, BuckleyGrayYeoman's brief changed during construction. Within tight timescales they worked closely with the University to ensure that the completed building met their specific needs as well as those expected of Higher Education generally.
