This 2500sf ‘tin can in the woods’ is a weekend escape for a Brooklyn family. Located in Accord, NY, the house sits in dense woods, enclosed by a prefab steel shell structure. Secure in the shell, program elements float inside the open space while the barrel vault shape reinforces a perspectival connection to the deep surrounding woods. The red kitchen is tucked below a master bedroom suite in alignment with the dining space. The residual space not taken by program, acts as a container for the client’s various collections of vintage furniture, lighting, action figures and vinyl.
