This 13,000 sf youth tennis club is located in Brooklyn’s Gowanus Neighborhood. The project’s north facade was fully glazed to establish a relationship with the street and the recreation space across Baltic Street. Project constraints began with proper USTA sanctioned tennis courts for 12 and under instruction, along with the addition of offices, reception, changing rooms and bathroom spaces. All building systems were removed or reconfigured to be packed against the ceiling for maximum court height. All Program elements were packed as closely to the walls, yielding maximum court area.

The user experience constitutes a series of spatial steps within a sequence of programmed moments from reception to court time. The driving design agenda started with the idea of a child’s toy box. Shapes and colors are composed, decomposed and reassembled into simple textures, patterns and graphics that can ultimately be packed up and re-deployed at future locations. Wood panels were used compositionally to contrast with synthetic materials while also complimenting the brand direction.
