Located on the campus of Devon Preparatory School in Devon PA, this project functions as both a student union space, and an event hall. The building is sited on the rear of the existing 1913 mansion to quietly activate an underused north zone of the campus. By joining the new building to the mansion, then stretching it's shape around to touch the adjacent St Anthony's building, a spatial embrace creates a new landscaped cloister that will function as an outdoor classroom. The single-story building is intentionally low to the ground permitting the iconic mansion as a background. Towards the north lawn, the building's volume rises to frame views into the landscape and connect to the existing Westthorp Garden. Clad in a contemporary zinc panel, sitting on a stone base, the materials reflect the restrained palate of the existing campus.
