Profile
sekou cooke STUDIO has grown out of Sekou G. Cooke’s emerging architectural career, which has included eight year’s of high-end residential and commercial design in New York and a further two years of multi-unit residential and mixed-use building design in San Francisco. Experiences as a project architect with Michael Davis Architects and Seidel/Holzman, and as a co-founder of slap.ink DESIGN COLLECTIVE have shaped the identity of his current practice.
Services
We offer a full complement of professional architectural and interior design services including conceptual design, design documentation, construction administration and project visualization for residential and commercial project as well as large-scale developments. Projects completed include retail and commercial spaces in the New York and San Francisco Bay Areas, residential and conceptual projects in Jamaica and Liberia, and competition entries across the country. We focus on keeping a small, nimble work force in order to efficiently serve our clients’ project needs without requiring massive procedural complexity or high overhead.
Vision
Our vision incorporates an alternative approach to design problems resulting in highly individualized solutions and an elevation of discourse within the design community. A purity of material use and legibility; maintenance of our compulsive attention to detail; and a constant re-evaluation of standard design thought, all come together to keep the vision alive.
Sustainability
Though the term “green” has become a convenient buzzword within the industry, we maintain our conviction that sustainable building practices should be more common sense than short-term trend and be incorporated into all levels of practice and education. Our commitment to the use of eco-friendly materials and sustainable building systems is particularly evident in such projects as Filleted Landscape and the Yilmeh Academy campus as well as in our consultations with clients.
