Located in the north-west end of Camden, Cooper’s Ferry is the proposed site for Amazon’s second new corporate campus. The campus consists of six million square feet of offices and amenities and is positioned along the Delaware waterfront. The proposed campus incorporates both the river front and the city by placing a series of office towers on a series of stepping plinths.
The plinths step downward to further blend into the cities residential scale. The plinths are cut along the east west axis by extensions of the street grid as well as by vegetated swales that serve as rain gardens. The stepping plinths are inhabited with a series of green rooves. The striated configuration of plinths, rain gardens and streets is held tied together along the north south axis at its urban edge and rivers edge.
The urban edge of the campus decreases in scale to pay respects to its surrounding context. The street fronts are lined with commercial programs that serve both the campus and the surrounding residents. Sports and recreational activities and cafes line the rooftops along plinths and surrounding out buildings to create destinations to the community that offer never before seen views of the waterfront, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and Philadelphia to the west.
Along the riverfront, a series of boardwalks are installed to rejuvenate the water’s edge. A series of programs such as marinas, observation decks, pavilions and amphitheaters are nestled into the wetland vegetation that extends from the water, into the river’s edge, and through the rain gardens into the campus.
