UCF Physics Lab

The real treasure of UCF’s physics and astronomy department is the Astronomy Lab. Robinson Observatory houses a 20-inch f/8.2 RCOS Ritchey-Chretien telescope. Current topics being researched at the observatory and department are:

  • rotation periods of binary asteroids
  • long-term dust-production behavior of comets
  • photometric monitoring of variable stars
  • exoplanet transits.

Don’t worry if that doesn't make sense to you, we don't know what it means either. What we do know is that the structure is masonry walls supporting precast hollowcore planks. The observatory foundations include a 36”x66” base for attachment of the telescope and observatory equipment.
