The Veterans Affair Medical Center in Orlando, Florida provides veterans with complete professional care in a modern facility. One of the goals for this project was to maximize sustainable elements throughout the building. This included adding solar panels and a terrazzo floor designed by terrazzo contractor Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo. 117,793 square feet of epoxy terrazzo was poured into place at the medical center, which also includes flat tread stairs and a precast terrazzo bench. At a 200 grit polish level, the seamless floor uses consistent epoxy colors throughout the hallways and lobbies. The mix design includes four epoxy colors that use a mixture of recycled clear glass, blue gray and Persian cream marble chips as aggregates. Terrazzo floors can create a first impression the moment a patient or visitor walks through the entrance of the building. The Veterans Affair Medical Center gains more than cost savings from a sustainable design.
