Wellesley Residence

This 1950’s era residence had several beautiful modern additions built onto it, but the original home did not flow gracefully into these additions. There was a lack of hierarchy in the sequence of public spaces, with the original living room functioning more as an entry vestibule and the kitchen being almost a hallway, forming the primary circulation through core of the home.

The design solution was developed to meet the unique requirements of the homeowner, a previous director of Tamarind Institute, who requested simple, open spaces that would be conducive to cooking and entertaining. The design resulted in functional, well-articulated spaces filled with natural light. The remodel complements an extraordinary collection of lithographs while providing a backdrop for activity ranging from daily living through formal gathering.
