Located on a hillside property, this single family residence overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It is a conceptual study, furthering my self-directed design studies.
The design is a combination of geometries. The rectilinear geometry is used to mimic the surrounding eucalyptus trees. It is used to define vertical elements, namely elevator shafts. The vertical masses are further defined by vertically-applied wood siding. As a contrast, roofs and floor are based on a Lotus Flower-like leitmotif.
A roof to floor skylight blurs the difference between interior and exterior space. This vertical void terminates with an interior landscape element adjacent to the Level 2 staircase.
The roofs are clad in copper with standing seams that accentuate the lotus flower motif. Over time, the copper roofs will patina to green, abstracting tree foliage.
