The project was a major a public open space in the centre of Abu Dhabi with a cultural and heritage brief to interpret Emirati culture in a contemporary landscape. In conjunction with the new park the architectural programme included visitor centre, café, theatre and gallery. The landscape includes an outdoor performance space, ethno–botanical gardens, sculpture park with outdoor pavilions as studios for artists, cultural guides and performers.

Each human culture engages with their environment in a unique way. Rigorous research, studies and inquiry into the forces that shape arid landscapes; indigenous ecology, geological phenomena, enthnobotany, human society, patterns, traditions and contemporary Arab cultures drives the landscape thematic.
